Mice With Swords. You Can't Go Wrong.

I have just been to watch the Prince Caspian film! I hadn't actually read the book, so there was an exciting element of not-knowing-what-was-going-to-happen I haven't had with many fantasy book-to-film adaptations. (Why haven't I read the book? I liked the four Narnia books I read when I was younger; why didn't I read the rest of them? Honestly, ( Read more... )

Noooo, Peter is awesome! I love Peter. He's just snotty and bossy because he's a kid who was once a king and a warrior and is now a kid again with an adult's memories. Gotta suck. I ♥ Peter. Plus William Moseley is very pretty.

Heh, that's a good point. Sorry, Peter; I'm probably being unfair to you. And he definitely got points from me for his distress after the Raid That Went Horribly Wrong. (Your icon is lovely!)

Thankee kindly!

I love the Narnia movies. I don't care how much they depart from the books (and I ADORED those books as a kid!), I love 'em anyway. And not just because William Moseley is so very pretty and thankfully not jailbait anymore!

...I just looked Moseley up, and he's older than me! I had no idea! YOUR FACE IS DECEITFUL, MOSELEY.

I quite like that the Narnia books are part of my childhood, but not gigantically, insanely important to me. It means that I can enjoy the Narnianess of the films without getting frustrated by alterations. Unlike, say, the Northern Lights adaptation and its colossal mistake of an ending.

Yeah, with Narnia I'm like *waves hand* 'Change away! Feel free.' I want them to change the ending actually. I want them to fix Susan.

But yeah, Nothern Lights was a collosal mess. But then I couldn't see how they could ever film those books as they were without stirring up one hell of a controversy. I mean, they kill God! Who wasn't even God anyway, just pretending to be God. And then they have sex! WTFOMGBBQ!

Augh, I want them to fix Susan's ending, too. I think this is one case in which keeping to the events of the book would actually be a mistake. WHATEVER ELSE YOU DO, FILMMAKERS, THAT'S THE IMPORTANT THING. (ER, NOT THAT FILLING NARNIA WITH CASINOS AND NEON LIGHTS WOULD EVER BE ACCEPTABLE. NOT EVEN IF SUSAN IS FIXED.)

Yes! What Lewis did was really unfair, IMO, but then I generally disapproved of most of The Last Battle anyway. It's been about fifteen years so I don't remember much of the plot, but I do remember being very cross.

The Last Battle felt like the biggest cheat to me. It might be different if you're more Christian, but the whole "Narnia is completely destroyed, Aslan is going to sit back and let it happen, and in the end they all go 'We're dead! Hooray!'" was not what I wanted out of the book.

And I felt horribly sorry for the poor dwarves stuck in the barn. I know they were being punished for not believing, but I never had a sense that they were willfully not believing. Just that they couldn't see what they didn't believe was there, and they were there to be laughed at while everyone skipped off to happyland.

In my head, that bit didn't happen. Only the other six, which make for a better, albeit unresolved, story.

UGH, I agree so much! When that bit came about in the books I was like... what? CS Lewis, I love you, but was there really any point to that except for making me unnecessarily sad?

Er, hi by the way, sorry to butt in on your comment.
