Well, Thanksgiving weekend has been lovely so far.
I started coming down with a cold last Sunday, but went in to work on Monday (3 PM to midnight) as I was needed to cover that late shift. I stayed home Tuesday, but went in on Wednesday since it was a light day (campus technically closed at noon, although the library stayed open until 5 PM with a skeleton crew) and because I could earn comp time later (when my son is here, closer to Christmas) by being part of the skeleton. I actually felt pretty good on Wednesday.
But yesterday and today, I've felt awful. Breathless is worse; he's got bronchitis pretty bad. He went to the doctor today and got some meds for it. This is the second time in less than two months that he's had bronchitis (the last time was when we were supposed to attend a family wedding in Austin the first Saturday in October), and this after not having any bronchitis since February 2006. He's supposed to have another medical procedure (small intestine series) done on Monday, but somehow I don't think that's going to be happening unless his cough goes away tomorrow, as he's supposed to be doing a prep that will dehydrate him on Sunday.
I think all I've got is a bad cold, but for all I know, it could be the flu. I don't think I've had any fever but I have had headaches and an achy body (besides the usual sinus pressure, stuffy/runny nose, and sneezing). No sore throat though. I can usually stop myself from getting the latter by drinking lots of Lemon Zinger tea with honey.
Our Thanksgiving dinner consisted of soup. Neither of us has much appetite, partly because we really can't taste anything (unless it's very sweet, very salty, or very spicy, and I won't eat the latter). I've been drinking lots of a hot spiced tea mix that a local restaurant makes; I think it has lemonade and/or Tang in it because it's pleasantly sweet. I do need to go out in a few minutes and ride my bike the half mile to the downtown square to get some more (I don't want to drive as parking will be a zoo; they've set up one of those fake ice rinks in the courthouse square parking lot). I also need to stop at the bank, ride a couple blocks more to a convenience store to get Mark some more grape juice, and maybe (write and) mail a letter to Eric. At least it's 71 outside in the shade at 3 PM.
Obviously I haven't been doing any Black Friday shopping. I haven't been doing much of anything I'd planned to get done this weekend, like working on my Christmas cards (Mark's computer dying didn't help - I think the Google redirect virus somehow affected a Windows or IE update - plus I need to go to Staples and get some die-cut Post-Its to enclose in the Christmas cards for my co-workers, and I don't feel like going to Staples today).
I also haven't done anything on picking up around here to prepare for Eric coming (December 11) or getting ready for Christmas. A home on our street is on the annual Candlelight Tour of Homes (next weekend) and we've been encouraged to decorate the outside nicely. I wanted to do a little more (lighted wreaths where each of the four light fixtures are, plus a string of lights along the 50' of gutter along the front) than I usually do (lighted garland and a swag made from cut-off Xmas tree branches on the front door, red lights wrapped around the four white porch posts). However, that involves buying some new stuff too and I don't have the energy to do that today either. Maybe tomorrow or Sunday...
I HAVE been doing some reading and working on genealogy stuff for my mom. And trying to rest. I swear, it seems I get sick a lot on holidays and other important days. I had measles at Christmas one year, mumps at Easter, and chicken pox on my birthday. I remember having a lovely intestinal flu at Thanksgiving when I was 16 - but recovered enough to go to a picnic (even though I didn't eat anything) the next day as I knew the guy I had a crush on at the time would be there).
