Christmas Theme Book Challenge 2007 book #4 (2nd extra):
49. Finding Noel: A Novel by Richard Paul Evans

If you like Richard Paul Evans (who writes a lot of Christmas books) or sentimental stories, you’ll like this one. I thought it was okay, but a little sappy. I picked it up at the local library for this challenge because the Noel in the title is the middle name of a character, and one of Breathless’ daughters has the same middle name (although she was not born on Christmas Day as the story character was).

Some little things bothered me about the story. I worry about 21-year-olds (the male and female protagonists) who fall in love and plan to marry after knowing each other less than two months. It also bugs me when homes are decorated for Christmas well before Thanksgiving, as is the case for the female protagonist and her roommate. Isn’t it bad enough that the retail and commercial world have Christmas decorations up the day after Halloween?

The storyline itself is predictable (Noel is found), although, to its credit, the plot does have a surprise twist near the end.

50 books for 2007! Not bad, since I didn’t start recording these until May, and could only remember three books I’d read earlier in the year.
