Christmas Theme Book Challenge 2007 book #2:
48.
Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris
I enjoyed the
other two books I read by Sedaris, but not this one. Two of the stories, “The SantaLand Diaries” (about Sedaris’ experiences as an elf at Macy’s) and “Dinah, the Christmas Whore” (about a coworker of his sister’s), were amusing, perhaps because they were based on (or could have been based on) real happenings. The other four stories were pretty awful-two were downright gruesome, which negated the sarcastic humor Sedaris is known for. I would not recommend purchasing this book because the two good stories (as well as one of the so-so ones) are available in other Sedaris books (
Barrel Fever and
Naked, respectively). This read like another attempt to capitalize on the Christmas book market.
Let's see if I can make it to 50 books by the end of the year!
