jay bakker--a TRUE Christian.
by definition 'Christian' means 'Christ-like.'
(perhaps we could recall what Christ said and did for a moment, and get past the ways He's been bastardized by his so-called followers.)
jay bakker has put himself in the places where he believes God is needed, rather than set himself up in a multi-million dollar building that most so-called 'sinners' would never darken the door of anyways.
jay bakker is preaching a gospel of inclusion, rather than what has apparently become the basis for many religions 'you are like us, you change and become like us, or you are clearly against God.'
i have been hearing about the 'gospel of inclusion' for awhile now..and apparently, the established 'christian' community is labelling it heresy. going so far as to excommunicate certain ministers, and label them publically as heretics.
odd, that people supposedly representing Jesus, are doing the same thing to these people that the religious leaders of His day did to Him, don'tcha think?
jay bakker is following his Spirit, reaching out to the undesirables, the unpopular, and the groups that 'christians' have washed their hands of.
you know what? Jesus never said anyone was beyond salvation. Jesus biggest problems were not with 'sinners,' but again, the religious people of the day.
going so far as to run the money changers out of the temple in a fit of anger.
and speaking of 'money changers' in the temple...jay bakker refuses to ask for money from his congregation.
Jesus never once asked for financial help, and yet, so much of 'christianity' revolves around 'give us money and God will bless you.'
i don't recall anything saying that you can buy a blessing from God anywhere in the Bible, but i don't really recall much of what's being preached and widely accepted in religion as being anywhere in the Bible.
the fact of the matter is, Jesus suggested giving everything away to the poor.
(besides, it doesn't really say much for the faith of those ministers if you think about it, cos shouldn't they trust God to provide?)
so if you haven't seen 'one punk under God' on the sundance channel, you should...and if you don't have sundance, it's available on itunes.
