The light in the bedroom was definitely what threw me off. I tried sleeping with a soft green light on and I just couldn't do it. I actually stayed in a semi-conscious state for a while, just below the state where I'm fully awake and not really falling into a sleep. I could move my body, which is nigh impossible when you're in REM, apparently, and I feel like I had to actually control my breathing. Like, remind myself to breathe.
Anyways, I prefer to listen to music before I conk out, and I was jamming to 'Man in the Box' by Alice in Chains and 'RIP The System' by KMFDM. And I did conk out around 12:03.
The human body can enter into more than one REM state in one night, and I did. I can only remember part of the 1st dream. I was standing in a huge crowd, in what seemed to be a mall. I couldn't really tell- everything looked very fuzzy, not with the clarity I experience in a few of my dreams. I think there was a guy standing next to me in a rooster costume. That's about it.
In the 2nd, I can also only remember part of the experience. It's longer than the first. I was sitting in a cafeteria, with a man across from me and one to my right, with a younger guy to my left. For some reason I distinctly remember that the tray was bright red. The man across from me had short, slightly spiky/messy natural red hair, and a goatee to match, and the man to my left was wearing glasses and had light brown hair. I don't know why, but we were discussing the hoodie I was wearing, which looked almost exactly like the shirt I wore to bed.
I woke up abruptly, thanks to my alarm clock. If I go lucid, it usually takes me a while before I wake up, and apparently I did not go lucid.
That's everything I could remember. I didn't take anything before I went to bed, medication-wise.
(For the record, I'm more occupied with remembering my dreams than controlling them at the moment.)
