Charity Project (updated September, 10, 2006)

There's so much that we need to share

So send a smile and show you care. ♥

I was given many opportunities to share my blessings with less-privileged children. These children rarely have a decent meal for the day and must work in the streets to support their family. When you give them a bag filled with biscuits and candy or a yummy meal from a nearby fast food restaurant, you'd expect them to excitedly look at the contents of your little gift and consume it so fast.

But you'll be surprised. Most of the time, the child would thank me and just hold on to the plastic bag filled with food. I would ask them why they don't want to eat it yet. They must be hungry wandering under the heat of the scorching sun. And you know what they would tell me? "Gusto ko po kasing iuwi para sa mga kapatid ko (I want to bring it home and give it to my siblings)".

And these children are just 4 - 6 years old of age.

I admire their selflessness. I also admire their sweetness. I've gone to countless outreaches thanks to my Catholic school. Some of the kids would not only give hugs & kisses but also some of their sweets! Their pure hearts really touch me. And that is why I am very fond of them and want to help them.

Thanks to a mouthful of
sunshine_candy, I will be able to bring a smile not only to a unprivileged kid's face, but to his/her tummy as well. ^_^ Instead of the initial plan of one little charity project wherein 100 kids will be given gift bags, I've decided to make it an on-going project instead. I sacrificed clothing and toy and went for candy, snack and drink instead because it was more practical and I wanted to stretch the budget to make the project longer. I will be handing goody bags to random street children I see and it would be too difficult to make sure the child will get a bag that contains the right toy and piece of clothing for his gender and size (especially when things get chaotic). Perhaps in the later months I will be able to donate clothes and toys to children foundations. For now, I will stick to food-filled bags.

My target for this year is to give out at least 300 goody bags to random streetchildren all across the metro. This page is to show the progress of this little project. I am aware that one shouldn't really be letting the entire world know about his good deed but this page isn't for showing off. It is for those who supported this charity project. This will help you keep track of its progress and see how far that $1 - $15 cutie fruity piece of accessory you bought from me has gone. ^u^

Target number of bags: 300
Packed and given bags so far: 15
Number of bags to go: 285

Additional Notes:
* I chose snacks and candies I actually eat and like. I thought it would be nicer instead of buying cheap unknown snacks that probably taste awful.
* The groceries I went to (I went to three different ones) didn't have cute loot bags or brown paper bags. I was planning to use brown paper bags and personally decorate them with oil pastels. Too bad they didn't have such. I had to stick to 6" x 12" clear plastic bags. I used 3 plastic bags per snack bag to make sure it won't break easily. I think kids can make money selling the extra plastics too. But hopefully next month, I can come up with a cuter bag. For the mean time, photoshopped smiling hearts will do lol.
* Note to self: Look for assorted candy packs.

Additional Notes:
* The snacks and candies above weren't well thought of (which explains why they're uneven). I was distracted by my cute and silly companion. Heh. Thanks Ringo for accompanying me, carrying all my grocery and shopping bags for me, driving me home, and making me smile. :)
* I still had lots of left over plastic from last month's giving. I decided to use them all up before purchasing new and cuter bags. So heh, photoshopped stars will do for now.
* Bida Corn is made by the same company that makes Boy Bawang. Hahaha. It's so weird.

This little project is made possible by the sweet supporters of Sunshine Candy (and my random sales posts here and there lol). A big thank you to all those who purchased from Sammi and I's shop. Without your purchases, I wouldn't be able to push through with this project. A big thank you also to those who showered us with sweet compliments. You guys may have not bought anything from us  but you definitely inspired us to keep those cutie fruity creations coming! Oh thank you as well to my Paulinian education (haha). I admit if it weren't for my Paulinian upbringing, I would probably never come up with this project. So hehe, thank you! Thank you! ♥

Note 09/09/06: I've already completed the month of August but haven't updated this page yet. I'll try to do so this week.
