The Life of Rinna
Scene 1894: wherein our heroine discovers the joys of jaywalking
My apartment is directly across a five-lane road from the building where I have my classes.  I could walk the 100 yards or so down to the crosswalk, and then walk the 100 yards back to the enterance to the building, but I'm too damn stubborn for that.  So most days, I just end up running across the street.  I'm sure it's a sight for passing traffic - me hoofing it across this busy street, my ridiculously heavy backpack thumping against my back, my oversized purse slapping against my leg, my well-worn Birkenstocks threatening to fall apart with every step.
And once I'm on the other side, I have to walk up a Very Steep Hill.  This wouldn't be a problem per se, except that construction at the top of the hill has left it coated with a lovely layer of Very Slick Mud.  And as we all know, Very Steep Hill + Very Slick Mud = Rinna at the bottom of the hill in a heap, covered in mud.

Scene 1901: wherein our heroine wears really colorful socks
In honor of the crap weather today, I wore some socks that were electric blue with tropical drinks all over them.  It made me wish very hard for a big-ass piña colada and a Really Big Hat.  I'm actually in the market for a new Really Big Hat, so if anyone out there knows a good place to get Really Big Hats, please let me know.  Anyway, it's been torrentially raining here (thank you, Hurricane Gustav), and wearing electric blue socks seemed as good a way as any to cheer myself up.

Scene 1909: wherein our heroine contemplates a vacation
I will be in London in three weeks.  Three weeks!!!  I'm excited, but also nervous.  I am not the best flyer.  I usually require a few stiff drinks before and during the flight to ensure I remain calm and rational for the duration.  We shall see how this goes.  My sister moved to London in June, and she's apparently having a very rough time of it.  Of course, she's living in a one-bedroom flat in Kensington, which is a pretty tony area.  Which means she has to work ALL THE TIME to pay her rent.  We tried explaining this to her before she left.  But since she never lived on her own before going to London, our words fell on deaf ears.  I have never left the country before, so this will be a very new experience for me.
