So it has been about a million years since I posted in my journal (a million years in Jess time equals about three weeks in real time) so I figured I should probably do that.
I just spent the last week in Voorheesville. For those of you who have absolutely no idea where that is, which is probably most of you, it's about five minutes from Albany, NY. Brian was on leave for the week and took me to meet his family. And by family I mean everybody. I met his mom, dad, stepmom, sister, stepbrother, stepbrother's wife, paternal grandmother, both maternal grandparents, his aunt and uncle and a great aunt and a great uncle. Oh I also met his ex-girlfriend, which was rather awkward. But I made it throught that, obviously. I typing this, aren't I?
We had a crazy busy week with a) meeting/seeing everyone, b) going everywhere that there was to go and c) finding time to just be with each other. We went to Albany a lot considering that Voorhees is pretty small. We also went to NYC on Friday. That was a whole bunch of fun even if we did spend about six hours just walking around. We saw a turkey in Battery Park which amused me to no end and had a generally good time.
Saturday was the Kentucky Derby, which is a big deal for his family apparently. At least his mom's side. His grandparents and the greats came over for a big dinner before the race. His sister, Stephanie, actually did most of the cooking considering she is going to the Culinary Institute of America in Poughkeepsie (which is about an hour and a half away from his mom's house). It was really nice to have a big family dinner like that because it seems like my family never does that anymore.
I also had a big dinner with his dad's side(ish) on Wednesday. It was almost too much family for me to handle. A week is a short time to fit everyone in like that but I think we did a pretty good job. I'm also pretty sure that his relatives liked me. Both of his grandmothers hugged me and gave me kisses on the cheek. And I'm not really the touchy-feely sort but I was shocked into submission. It was an odd feeling.
Oh, I almost forgot. In addition to spending Sunday to Sunday in New York, we also went to a car show in Boston the Saturday before we went to Voorhees. That was an interesting trip considering I barely know where to put the gas in a car, let alone anything about anything else. But I still managed to have a good time.
I think that's pretty much it. About five or so weeks until I leave. I'm beginning to wonder if this is the best choice. I hope so.
