There was a thumping sound coming from the bedroom upstairs again. Damn it, couldn’t the woman be silent and accept her part in the play? It wasn’t that difficult. If he could be patient, why couldn’t she? He dropped his spoon onto his saucer with a clatter and stormed out of the dining room to deal with it, again.

He opened the door and she looked up at him over the gag clenched between her teeth, trying the pitiful look again. “That won’t work you know. I have little interest in your lily white self at the moment. You aren’t in any danger if you behave yourself. I’m after bigger game. Just sit there and be quiet and it will all be over soon.”

She said something around the gag. He sighed and walked into the room, looking to be sure the ropes were still taught around her ankles. He’d used a heavy chair to tie her to, an extra precaution to make sure she didn’t leap up, chair and all, and head butt him in the gut.

He stood off to the side, just in case she tried it anyway. He slid a finger under the edge of the spit-soaked gag, maintaining eye contact with her, staring her down so that she knew who was boss. HE was the boss here. This was his plan, his play, his tea party and everyone would do what he wanted. Or they would pay. The stakes were too high for this plan to fail.

It was too tight to pull down. He’d been a little angry when he’d tied it on her earlier to shut her up when she wouldn’t stop crying and yelling. He grasped the top of her head and turned it so he could undo the knot slightly to loosen it. He didn’t want to hurt her, he just wanted her quiet. He edged the gag down. “What?”

“You don’t have to do this. I won’t tell anyone what you’ve done. Let me go. Please. Whatever it is you want, I’ll help you get it. I’ll make phone calls, I know people. I know the mayor.” At that, he rolled his eyes and roughly yanked the gag back into place, tucking the edge of it between her lips. Blessed silence followed the motion. The gag had been a wonderful idea.

“Shut up now. You said enough. You don’t need to talk to do your part. It’s a very, very simple part. You just sit here the way you are and look pretty. That’s it. And do stop thumping the floor, you can’t get out of the knots and you are giving me a headache.” He pressed a fist to his temple and frowned at her.

He went back to the door and stared at her, hoping she was getting the point that he meant business. Regarding her as she sat there, her hands behind her back, her pink lips around the blue cloth, he decided he really liked the gag. “You know, you’re quite the fetching damsel in distress, you’ll do nicely. Now sit there and be quiet. This will all be over soon enough, I’m sure.”

The End
