The Book Thief

During my business trip, I brought along a book called "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak.  It was about a young, impoverished girl in Nazi Germany who had an insatiable hunger for words. Books.  The interesting thing about it is that the narrator is Death. It is the war. He is busy. But he finds that one girl in the snow holding onto a book by her brother's grave, quite interesting. So the book thief's story unfolds through death's eyes, and along with it the lives of people around her, in vivid color.   There is no fantasy in this book. Just the cold reality of war and the simple joys of living.  People lived and died, it was happy and sad, and it was beautiful. I finished the book on the plane ride home and I tried very hard not to cry. > .
