Another year in review post
1
. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Drove across the country in a u-haul. Tobogganed off a roof.
2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Not really. My new resolution is to do one craft-project a week from the D-I-Y craft book, because if I don't, then all I will do is dance. And thats really no good for anyone involved.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes! Joanna did! And Tara too!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My mom's cat, Alistair. But he was so old, that it was probably for the best.
5. What countries did you visit?
Um...Canada. Shame on me for travelling less. But its hard to go places when you're flat broke. Thats my justification.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
MORE MONEY. More free time. And a new set of measuring cups.
7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
February is when we got Pacha! GOOD DECISION.
July 3rd was when we left Kelowna.
August 22nd is when Alison left for her opus in Toronto
September 9th was when my wisdom tooth was removed
October 13th we received our formal eviction notice from our first Winnipeg apartment
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Standing up to the School of Contemporary dancers when they decided to withhold me from my degree because of my weight. Its amazing whyat a properly worded letter can do.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not allowing myself to have any free time. Its been a serious strain on my relationshiz w/ le Jer...poor guy. Plus I've been really bad about letting my brain take over my feelers. EPIC fail on that front.
10. Any illness or injury?
-Wisdom tooth infection resulting in emergency dental surgery in September.
-Ingrown toenail infection...so painful
-Pelvic infection the weekend we moved (November). Was in and out of hospital twice, but did a show, and didn't miss any classes! Trooper me.
-Sprained ankle mid- December. Small potatoes.
11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
hahaha.
-Turquoise ring from Jeremy
-BED FROM DADDY. So good. Sleeping on a real mattress after 2 years of dumpster-diving mattresses and airbeds is a feeling to cherish.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My moms, my dads, and Jeremy's. Kenda, too, for being such a good listener.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Dan's, who allowed a 10-year friendship to go to shit over a couple of DVDs and a spoonful of Nutella. Fuck that. Jer is still so choked.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Tuition. Boo. As much as I tell myself "its an investment in my future!",I'm really looking forward to seeing the investment pay me something...anything, please.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting the apartment we currently live in!!
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Ra Ra Riot.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? sadder. I miss BC.
b) fatter or skinner? I think I'm about the same.
c) richer or poorer? richer, actually!
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
explored my surroundings, enjoyed myself. Stressed less about dancing. But I'm in a pretty good place because of it.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
I wish I had...driven less? I don't quite know currently. Eaten less? Whats done is done.
20. How do you plan to spend Christmas?
I spent Christmas at home with le fam.
21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
With my cat, yes. Although that love is strained at the moment (fucker keeps climbing my christmas tree). But when he snuggles in my lap (as he is right now), there are few better feelings. Unconditional love. Mmm.
22. How many one night stands?
zilch. Homey don't play that (anymore).
23. What was your favourite TV program?
Flight of the Conchords and Grey's. Shut it.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate? Yes. Haha.
25. What was the best book you read?
Three Day Road. Friggin fantastic.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Ra Ra Riot.
27. What did you want and get?
An awesome job? Life's pretty stellar when you don't dread going to work every day.
28. What did you want and not get?
I really wanted to be in a less precarious position financially (which I am), but I also wanted to rely less on my parents. Hmm.
29. What was your favourite film of this year?
STEP UP. SO GOOD.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 25. I worked, and my work bought me carrot cake. Good day for sure.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Losing more weight than I have. That seems like such small potatoes, I know. But when you live in my world, thats how it goes.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
I made the transition from "poverty-chic" to "bag lady". It hasn't been pretty. But I can afford to not cut my hair over the toilet anymore.
33. What kept you sane?
My family. Absolutely.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Channing Tatem is "hotter than a stiff cock" -thank you, Julia Child.
36. Who do you miss?
KENDA. Janet Lee. Mark. Joshie. My sister. My old self sometimes. I was really cool once.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
Claire and Ms Tobi. No question.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009?
Confidence and compromise. Its been tough for both Jer and I. I am slowly becoming less selfish.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"whatever it is that gets you through..."
