2 sets of questions got posted this week.
Manners
1. How closely do you think good manners are related to income and social status?
Wow, don't think I've considered this before. I've witnessed all sorts of manners from all sorts of people. I think it has more to do with a person's upbringing than income level.
2. Can the idea of good manners inhibit people's natural sense of fun and inhibition?
Yes, if people are overly concerned about impressions and appearances. I also think of kids just being kids, and parents hyper-focused on their kids behavior or what they say. You've also got to read the room, and realize there are appropriate times and places.
3. Do people have more manners now or in earlier times?
I think culture was more stiff and inflexible in the past, and trying to 'look good' more than now. I also think people considered others a little more than in the past. It seems more 'me first' these days. When I was teaching, there were definitely parents who were like, how dare you expect my child to be quiet and pay attention while the teacher is teaching? How dare you give them consequences!!!!!
4. Do you say "hi" to people even if they are strangers? Why? Why not?
Yup. I'll either make eye contact and nod, or say hi or hello. I feel like it's kind of rude for me to pretend someone isn't there. Now, I know there are very shy and/or introverted folk who would rather die than interact with a stranger, and I'm totally fine with that. Someone in my neighborhood walks laps most nights, and rarely acknowledges me when I'm outside. I know it isn't personal. If she does look at me, I'll respond.
5. Do you listen to other's people conversations on the street?
Heck yeah! I people watch, and if you're speaking at a volume that anyone around can hear, I'm going to listen as well. It would be a different if they were whispering.
Health Check
1. How's your health this week?
Same as usual. Occasional headache, nothing else wrong. Not actually sick.
2. What's the healthiest thing you've done recently?
I'm trying to get more movement in each day. I was pretty sedentary for a while. A little yoga, a little walking, a little trampoline.
3. What do you look for in a doctor?
Does this imply I actually GO to a doctor? Well, when I was looking for one in January, I kind of wanted a female, and also a smallish practice.
4. What was your most memorable childhood illness?
Strep throat when I was 9. For my parents, it was probably meningitis when I was 3 months old, but of course I don't remember that.
5. What's your most interesting scar and how did you get it?
Most of my scars are pretty faded. I still see a faint one on my left hand from when I crashed on my bike at age 6. The street next to my house had a slight incline. We liked to ride down it really fast, then come around the corner into the cul-de-sac. I cut it too close and hit the curb.
