Character Name: Raimu “Rhyme” Bito
Series: The World Ends With You
Original or Alternate: Alternate
Age: 16
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Questioning

Appearance: Rhyme is one of those people who has an androgynous look to her. She is very often mistaken as a feminine looking boy when people first meet her, and her style of clothing doesn't do much to detract from this opinion. She is of average height for a girl, and does in fact have a petite figure but most of this is covered up by the fact that she wears incredibly baggy clothing, which makes it seem as if she is walking around wearing a tent.

Her skin is quite fair, and she has short, messy hair. It is similarly a pale colour-a cornflower and most of it is hidden under a black beanie. Her eyes are a navy blue colour

Rhyme’s attire typically consists of a large, salmon shirt with a black heart-shaped skull on it. The sleeves of this shirt hang past her wrists and almost cover her hand in its entirety. It’s obviously too big for her, but she seems fond of it nonetheless. She wears long, worn pants that fit rather loosely on her and are kept up by a colorful tie dye sash. Her sneakers are black with a bit of yellow and look very worn, as if she has had them for several years. Atop her head she wears a large beanie with a tiny skull clip.

The most important material thing she wears however is a small bell necklace that was given to her by Beat.

Personality: Rhyme is quite the precocious sixteen-year old girl. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that she grew up in a poor household, and was forced to manage under the strenuous circumstances. It might be because of her older brother Beat, who can be incredibly impulsive and hot-headed (which often gets him into trouble she needs to get him out of). Whatever the case she definitely takes things with a good deal more maturity than someone her age, even some older people. Having died, been through the Game, and then have had to take the huge leadership role of an insurgent group against the Composer definitely did much to contribute to this.

She is far from the type who thinks only of her own world. Rhyme is always considering others, particularly her brother, and looking at the bigger picture. She can be a pretty quiet and reserved girl at times, not because of unfriendliness or shyness (far from it), but because she likes to think things through and make sure she has a clear understanding of people and the situation at hand.

She is quite the optimist, always looking on the brighter side of everything, and always with a smile of her own to cheer others up. Rhyme has quite the fondness for adages and proverbs and is always quoting them whenever she can. She finds great comfort in such wise words, and it is only a small part of her greater love for learning in general. Though she doesn’t always understand, and can’t always quite keep up she does enjoy discussing and thinking problems and subjects through, whatever they may be. Granted her world can be a little black and white sometimes, she always tries her best to keep an open mind.

Aside all this, however, the thing that stands out most about Rhyme’s personality is her disposition. Despite all the tragedies she has faced, she is almost always carrying a cheerful smile and is ready to do what she can for those she cares about, and even those she doesn’t know. The sweet and lively demeanor emanate quite vibrantly from her, and gives her a brightness that only genuine optimism can bring.

Like any human, however, Rhyme does have her moments. Though rare she does have times of desperation and depression. The Game is an incredibly harsh environment, and while she had seen how benignly and beautifully people can act in such strenuous situations, she has also seen a cruelty and hopelessness that she had never dreamed of. Being in the Game as long as she has has shown her much of human nature, and yet she feels she understands very little of it. To go with that, she questions herself many times. A part of Rhyme understands that what she is doing is bad, that it might upset the careful balance that holds the UG and RG apart. Yet she is driven to this goal because it is all she has. When she gave up trying to win the Game the proper way, she gave up on getting her dreams back permanently. She clings onto this singular goal, because it is all she has, but a part of her realizes it is very selfish. Guilt is an emotion that plagues her a lot-particularly where her brother is concerned.

Strengths: In terms of abilities, Rhyme's greatest is her ability to create a 'safe zone'. These safe zones are can vary in size, but the larger, the more time it takes, and the more concentration is needed on her behalf. This power still needs some development on her part, but if she is using them solely for herself she can 'phase' in and out of spaces.

Though these abilities aren't natural, with the help of the two pins she had on her when she was brought over to Taioron she is also very skilled at creating shields and healing. In short, Rhyme is a very good person to have as support. Years of being in the Game have made her very quick and agile on her feet, and particularly in the past months were subtly was of the most importance she had become very good at being very stealthy.

Rhyme's other skills however include a pretty strong understanding of people, despite what she thinks, and a strong sense of sympathy that allows her to connect with all sorts of people. She is a very good negotiator, capable of finding the peaceful solution in many cases. She is the type of person who can make friends with almost anyone which lends her many allies.

She is very smart, and not just for her age. She has a strong propensity towards learning, and not just academics, but almost anything someone is willing to teach. She catches onto things pretty easily, and is quick on thinking on her feet which is probably what has kept her alive, so to speak, for so long.

Weaknesses: When it comes to her powers, Rhyme, ironically had an advantage when she was dead. When dead, there wasn't a real need to eat or sleep so she could go days on end, taking her time and effort into forming these safe zones. Now that she is alive, she has much more limited energy, so she will have to do a lot of training to get back to the level of potency she had before. In truth, she never really understood this power, or why she had it, so when it comes down to it, while alive she has little control over it. Particularly when it comes to phasing, she has a bad habit of doing it even when she doesn't want to.

Though she has spent many years in a situation that called for fighting, Rhyme never became very strong when is came to pure physical power. Most of her time was spent running and keeping hidden and so while she may be quick, in straight one on one combat she would fairly incredibly poorly. That is worsened by the fact that for all her support skills, she has nothing in her arsenal that would allow her to directly harm another.

Even if she did, however, Rhyme has a hard time bringing herself to hurt what she considers another sentient being. It was easy to get rid of Noise which she saw as simply mindless and haphazard creations of the Composer, but those rare instances when she came up against a Reaper she always took the opportunity to escape. In that sense she is very weak-minded.

Without the pins she carries, Rhyme can neither heal nor create shields of any sorts. The only natural ability she has is the zone-creation.

Her ability to always think things through can be just as much a weakness as it is a strength. Some situations call for quick actions, and Rhyme is the type to deliberate over every action, trying to figure out the consequences of everything she does. Sometimes when you look for solutions to make everyone happy, you instead find one that makes no one happy.

The Game: Important Note: Much of this is speculation on my part, and some of it is outright fabrication. This is an idea I've put together from what we learned through twewy, in the secret reports, and just my imagination.

When you die, enter the Game to get another chance at life. To enter you must give up that which is most precious to you. The Game lasts one week, and you have to survive till the end of that week to win. It takes place within the Underground, or UG for short, a place that is parallel to the Realground ground, or RG for short. Players remain within the area that they perished, and are still able to see other people but since they technically exist on another plane, the living cannot see them.

There will be creatures called Noise who will try to erase you, and you use pins which grant you certain powers with which to fight back. Certain people may only be able to use certain pins, and the more you use a pin, the more skilled you become with them. What determines how many pins and which pins a person can use is their Imagination and Soul. Unfortunately you cannot use them without a partner, and so Players must create pacts with another person so that they can fight back. It is also important to know that once you make a Pact you are intrinsically connected. If one of you dies, then seven minutes later, the other one will too.

Each day you are given a specific mission that you have to complete by the Game Master of that week. You are only given a specific time with which to complete them, and if you fail you are erased. All Players have the same mission, so if none of them manage to complete it everyone dies in one fell swoop.

The ones who run the Game will be trying to make things difficult for you are Reapers. Each week one of them is appointed Game Master and they are the ones who make the missions, create certain 'walls' and other obstacles that make it more difficult for Players to do their missions, and ultimately are the ones you have to fight if you survive till the end of the week.

The 'top' Reaper so to speak is called the Conductor, and he is the right hand man of the Composer who to some degree is a sort of Demi-God. There are many Composers all over the world, but each of them is assigned a very specific area. All Games have the same basic foundation, but each varies according to how their designated Composer wishes.

Sadly, even if both of you make it, only one person can be revived per game. The other one can either choose to play again, choose to be erased, or choose to become a Reaper.

The Composer is the one who decides when Games happen. They might happen one right after another, or more commonly they might have a fixed interval. If the latter is the case, as it is so for the Game of Shibuya which typically happens once a month. During this time, whatever Player or in rare cases, Players that managed to survive the week, but did not regain life sleep and remain in a sort of Limbo, between the UG and the HG (Higher Ground). The HG is where the class beyond even Composers exist. These are Angels, or as they are also referred to-Producers. Their job is to watch over all the Games on Earth, and make sure that no Composer ever abuses their powers. They hand pick the original Composers, and sometimes even strip them away of their powers. They look out for people who may have potential to be competent rulers, whether alive or dead, but only ever directly interfere in the most extreme of cases. Getting involved is usually punished by being exiled from the HG and being stripped of one's status as an Angel.

Returning to Limbo, being that it exists outside of the UG, it is out of the reach of the Composer. The Producers keep watch over it, making sure that the Players are returned once the next Game occurs, but again they allow this process to occur on its own; in essence it is an unstable and unruled domain.

History: Rhyme's real name is Raimu Bito. She is the younger sister, by three years, of Daisukenojo “Beat” Bito. The two were born to a poor family in Japan, and in all probability, rather dysfunctional. Times were always very hard for the Bito family and they lived by the dollar. Because of this Rhyme was denied much of the comforts that most kids her age take for granted, and it was part of what gave her, her maturity. She never felt bitter about all this however, and tried to always believe that things would turn out for the better. With all the misfortune they met she still felt that she was lucky for having all that she did, particularly a brother as wonderful as Beat, who she considers the best in the entire world. The two were close from the moment that she was born, and wherever Beat would go, she would follow. She even began to pick his taste in clothing and music as her own.

Many of her days were spent with Beat, watching him practice skateboarding, browsing the streets of Shibuya, and occasional meetings with his friends when they would hang out, have a merry time just talk and dance. She was considered a bit of a liability at first, after all, who would want someone's kid sister along, but when people got to know Rhyme she became part of the crowd.

It was through Beat and his friends that Rhyme found her dream of wanting to sing and dance to her own music. She adored it so much and began to pursue it with a vigor. She danced more, she sung more and she wrote. Rhyme didn't have any money to take actual lessons for any of these things but she did not let that deter her in the slightest. She would go to the library sometimes to read books on music theory, she would practice outside or in the shower, nothing could stop her and she felt so happy to have found what she believed was her purpose.

Things took a turn for the two Bitos, when one day Beat had an intense argument with his parents, which resulted in his declaration of running away, and with that he stormed out. Rhyme was so frightened for him and at the prospect of being left alone that she ran after him, not really paying attention to much other than her desire to be with him, and see him home safely. Because of her distracted state, she didn't even notice the car until it was too late. Beat attempted to save her, but because of her mistake the both of them ended up dying.

This wasn't the end. Rhyme and Beat were both thrown into what is simply called 'The Game'. Rhyme had her dreams were stolen away from her as her entry free, and for Beat, it was his sister, and so all of Rhyme's memories of her brother were taken away. Though Beat still remembers her, and she feels an incredible attachment to him, she simply can't remember who he really is. The two formed a pact and became partners in the Game and for obvious reasons were an incredible match. During their time that week they met Sota and Nao and the four of them teamed up and helped one another.

The four of them survived the week, but according to Game rule only one person is ever able to be revived at a time. Nao won this round, and the three others were given the option to either become Reapers, be erased, or make an attempt at the next Game. All three of them decided to go with the latter option, and they were put to sleep and throw in Limbo till the next game a month later. The three of them managed to survive the next week, and this time Sota won.

Beat and Rhyme continued to work together to three more Games until, and it was after their fifth time in Limbo something unprecedented occurred. Two weeks after their fifth Game, Rhyme woke up. It took her a really long time, but at last she was able to awaken Beat and the other Player as well, and all they saw was an endless darkness no matter where they walked or looked. A week of searching, wondering, talking and worrying and they were once more back in Shibuya, ready for their sixth Game. They had no idea where they had been, or exactly what it meant so they decided to put that week of fear and isolation behind them and continue their attempts to regain their lives.

Two more Games passed this way, and Rhyme was always the first to wake up but it became easier to wake Beat up meaning that he too was growing the ability to take better control of his frequency. They explored more, and began to notice that this time around there would be occasional 'flickers' in this darkness of Shibuya. The more they concentrated on them, the more frequent and steady the flickers became and so they began a meditative process, finding hope in the possibility of escaping this Limbo, and perhaps even the Game.

They became better, but ironically during their ninth Game, Beat won. It came as a surprise to both of them, they were certain that this new enterprise they had started on would be their sure fire way for both of them to get free. There was a huge fight over that, but once someone is picked they have little choice in the matter. So Beat was revived, and Rhyme found herself very much alone. Her optimistic nature did not let this deter her, and by this point she was able to wake up almost immediately after being sent to Limbo. Her skills at both pins and controlling her frequency had become quite powerful after so long in the UG, and she continued to practice both. Three months after what marked her year anniversary in the UG, Rhyme escaped Limbo.

Much to her dismay, the Shibuya she saw wasn't the RG, but the UG, and so she was still nothing more than a ghost to the living. Though her friends and brother would visit the statue of Hachiko each day, there was nothing she could do to let them know she was around. The RG was for the living, and the living alone. Nonetheless it was a step up from what she had been stuck in before, and being able to be in the RG allowed her to be in the midst of Shibuya life without having to worry about Noise or Reapers. From there she began to work on a different possibility. Through three more months of meditation, going through Games, and hard work Rhyme slowly began to build another plane of her own. Having been in the UG as long as she had (when very few people survived even a week) had helped her nurture her Imagination to a great extent, and the nature of her Soul was unique enough to create another alternate reality, however small and weak. Through more months of failed Games Rhyme began to will strength into this reality, and when she made it stable and completely under her control she stayed there for the entire week of the next Game, to see how secure it was against others. She was never found, and at the end of the week she wasn't summoned to the Conductor as was the typical end of all other Games.

Rhyme, in essence, had created a safety zone.

It was then that she decided, with her newfound power, that she would find a way to work against the Game and the cruel ways it was conducted. With her partner, Neku, for the next Game as her first recruit, Rhyme began to form an insurgent group that used the private plane she had created as their base. The group grew to five people, one of them being a girl named Shiki, and between them they decided that they would learn as much as they could about the Game and take it down. Through more months of skirting around during Game sessions, hiding, and eavesdropping they were able to learn tidbits of information regarding the Reapers, and more importantly the Composer. By this time however it became quite obvious to the Conductor that there was something incredibly strange going on when many of the reports he got came up with strange numbers, and many faces appeared on and off.

The existence of t he Insurgent group became suspected, though where they could be, and how they could so mysteriously disappear was beyond them. Thus started the silent war, the Reapers against a tiny group of people-children still, determined to take down the Composer.

As it became more and more evident that there was someone in the UG, working to save more people, and somehow tampering with the Game, said Composer began to make the UG an even harsher environment. Noises became stronger, and more vicious. Reapers were given more free reign to what they could do, to eliminate as many Players as they could. The missions that were given out daily became doubly hard and would sometimes pit people against each other.

For a while things were looking bad for the group, until they got their sixth recruit-a strange boy by the name of Joshua who seemed to have a keen knowledge of the game. He became Rhyme's partner, for the times she would venture out. Unbeknown to her and the rest of the group, he is the very Composer they are after. It was only after a month of finding him, though, that Rhyme received her letter, and was spirited away to Taioron.
