Note: In which Uruha and Kai are seasons :)

Kai arrives with shivery winds, winnowing in scattered directions and victimizing leaves and dying branches because he’s too indecisive. But he makes them beautiful. Splashes of oranges and golden yellows swirling with wicked reds and stubborn browns, colouring the town with forgotten childhoods and remnants of dreams that have disappeared long ago. He likes to tickle their cheeks with his chilled fingers and mischievously kiss them incessantly until they glow scarlet. Kai is also fond of coyly drifting through opened collars, sending trembles along their spines; caressing every knob from their lower backs to their necks as if he’s their intimate lover.

Uruha approaches with a whirlwind of soft snow and stinging ice; his moods fluctuating every other day like a jilted paramour. Some days he prefers a gentle flurry full of tiny, intricate snowflakes covering the streets like a cotton blanket, breathing life into broken hopes and neglected faith. He secretly fancies the Christmas lights and candles in the windows, basking in the way it illuminates his own eyes and warming him from the inside out. Occasionally, he’ll go around and collect all the scents of vanillas and coffees and chocolates, and sprinkle them all over, sliding them through the cracks of the doors and windows to tease the occupants with a taste.

Come December 21st, Kai visits Uruha, bringing aromas of pumpkin spice and raked leaves. He tells Uruha of his adventures and roguery; how he blew a man’s toupee five blocks down and how he kept a girl company while she waited for her boyfriend on a park bench. In turn, Uruha will hold him close, snuggled against his chest and breathe in his fragrant, painting his own personal portrait of stroking Kai’s cheeks and holding Kai’s heart.

“Uru, don’t give them a hard time this year, okay? I promised them things will be well until Winter is over.”

Uruha hovers his lips over Kai’s.

“What about Spring?”

“That’s none of my concern. And it shouldn’t be yours either.”

And Uruha showers Kai with warm touches and heated kisses, leaving marks of his love and a token of his soul.
