"shouwa genroku rakugo shinjuu" is canon gay. it's, it's my dream anime. it's like a gay story from osamu dazai (or another gay story from natsume souseki), set in my favourite era, and the gayness is actually the main focus - and is mostly made obvious due to the very sensual camerawork.
i saw a small part of it before and hadn't cared for it, but boy did i see the wrong part!
this anime is so inspiring, i actually just wrote down a whole page of original fiction after having watched 6 eps of it. after not having written any fanfic in months, and having only written original fiction like twice in my life before!
