Maou Finale Ramblings

Sep 19, 2008 19:21

I finally finished Maou. Some spoilers ahead.

- Ohno. Fucking. Rocks (in case you didn't already know). Every episode I watched I marveled at his ability to become Naruse. Is there anything Ohno does't excell at? Singing, dancing, drawing, acting... Given his previous television and film roles, I had him pegged for... like, zero acting ability. And then out comes Maou and... just... hell.

- Toma wasn't nothing to sneeze at either. I just ached for him.

- I think this will be the end of my Maou header. I really... just don't know if I can look at Naruse and not feel... distressed.

- Firstly, Naruse? STABBED BY RATFACE?!  Who saw that coming?!  I sure as hell didn't.

- Unfortunately, I was unwittingly spoiled about Naoto's death. So that didn't come as a shock. And I predicted way back that Naruse's plan all along was to goad Naoto into killing him because a) he wants to die and b) he wants Naoto to become a murderer.

- And what the hell was that lame-o final scene?

- Oh! And that moment when the gun goes off, and Naruse and Naoto slowly, s l o w l y meet each other's eyes.

- Mostly, it's the end that sticks with me. Naruse and Naoto. That image of them... The first thing I thought of was Romeo and Juliet. How could you not draw the parellels?  Less with the undying love and more with the tragedy of it all, but I... got weepy.

- I find myself wanting... more from it. I want the tragedy erased and find some meaning in it all. So much of their suffering could have been averted, even in the end. And... it's unexpectedly gnawing at me in a way I can't explain.

- Anyone else have similar thoughts?

ramble, maou
