Non-spoilery GANTZ thoughts, plus a cut if you don't want ANY hints

There is no earthy reason a lesbian should have such a fascination with the penis of one Ninomiya Kazunari.

I just had to say that first off.

I think the costume department was so diligent about trying to minimize any bulging in the Gantz suits that they sorta forgot about it the REST of the time. I should send them flowers.

And down to business. I ( Read more... )

YAY! Someone who wants to TALK about it!

It's been... like, what? over a week now? And I still want to watch it again. More. And the rest. Just... I left the theater so PLEASED.

I'm not one to particularly ogle the bulge myself so when I notice, you know it is notable. XD And I think that Gantz suit looks equally hot on either gender. But particularly hot on Neen considering he owns my soul.

*giggle* I full out acknowledge that I was looking for it. I mean... there has been long standing speculation that Nino is packing. And he's just such a TEENY LITTLE SCRAWNY THING...I want him to have a big surprise in his pants. It's all part of the Ninomiya Kazunari charm, right? He's a walking contradiction. This is just.... physical proof.

And yes...the girls looked HOT in them juuuuust as much. An aside, there was a lot of disappointment I think from Manga fans that the girl (who's name escapes me) wasn't degraded enough. ...um, THANK YOU JAPAN FOR NOT FOLLOWING IN THAT VEIN. *shudder*

I sometimes wonder if the preoccupation with rape/forced sex/victimization in Otoku culture is a large part of why I dislike so many female characters in Japanese media. It's just...revolting to me. While I appreciate a good rape-fantasy, it just goes too far in Japan. Even in Gantz, I did find it a little hard to like her character, you know?

Nino, just such a ~Hollywood star~ and now such an ~action star~!

So, read that again. Nino=Action Star?! It's like some sort of parallel universe. You have to think that even he's a little bit baffled by this. And yet, he WAS. Teeny, scrawny, weak (mean to say, but true) absolutely became a believable action star. I just kinda wanna squeeze him to bits to celebrate. He owned the movie. He was magnetic!

While I agree with the detractors, there were a few moments when it was a little overdone (which, honestly speaking, is something I do sometimes take issue with in Nino's acting) but it translated in the film quite well, I thought. Given the situation Kei found himself in, isn't it believable he's gonna be all WTH?

Yeah, you could definitely tell the difference between an idol and an actor there!

Yes, and then I find the whole thing FASCINATING. Because, like Nino said, they don't get the chance for this face-to-face kind of thing in Japan. The closest the get are audiences that sit and watch (in TV the focus is always the guest and concert there's a sense of distance when it's 5 vs 70,000). So I was kind of interested in Nino's reaction to fans that are a little bit more hands-on.

I kinda get the impression that Arashi (and probably all of JE) are very removed from their fans by JE (is that good or bad? I donno). I don't think there's really an awareness of the impact they make beyond the numbers and dollar signs that the execs care about.

...but that's just my impression, and I could go on and on about JE and molding idols into performers from the tender age of 12 and on and on and on. It's a can of worms.

At any rate, Nino handled it like a pro, even though he'd never been in quite that situation before. MatsuKen.... was adorable and flumoxed.

I do have to say though, that the whole thing did feel a little bit...cheap? Like they just found a random host, a couple of cheap translators and threw it together. Nino deserved better, IMHO.

Tooootally happened in mine too! I really wonder how much was the dub, I think a lot but def not completely. XD

I don't think the dub had anything to do with it! The words were perfectly benign. It was the LOOOOONG LOOOOOVING LOOOOOOKS they exchanged for a profound length of time! *g*

That got to the point of distraction, especially when they seemed pretty intent on slicing people up the moment before.

SUPER DISTRACTING!!!! This has got to be my only complaint about the movie. Seriously, everything else I could accept, write off, or love with leaps and bounds. But this was distracting, yes.

(ahaha, sorry to spring you with such a long comment! I saw you had me friended (I should really set a notification XD) and saw this post and well... words. XD)

No apologies! Comment-squee over Gantz is thoroughly warranted!!
