Six miles of villi

Jun 27, 2008 08:33

Heard at a first aid class where I earned a 2-yr certification for a 3-hr class. Woot.

Instructor: How long is the small intestine?

Fellow classmate: Oh, it's like six miles long.

Good to know that if I need to escape from an airplane, I can just repel down someone's small intestine (not mine, of course).

In hindsight, I should not have snickered and snorted. I thought she was kidding. She was serious. The instructor acted as if she was talking to a 3-yr-old and replied, "Close, it's about 20 feet long." I liked her idea of distance. On walks, I am going to walk like fifty miles or about 170 feet, whichever comes sooner.
