Cosette had planned to spend the week between sessions at her father's, but something had come up and he had to travel for business. (She didn't ask. He was always mysterious about it, and this was one of the areas where it wasn't worth trying to get him to answer.)
So, a bit at loose ends, she was roaming the school grounds just for the sake of it. She'd been thinking of exploring the sixth floor a bit, but to get there (not having developed the ability to fly, childhood nickname notwithstanding) she had to pass the fifth floor first.
She saw an open door, she had to stop and peer in; it was curiosity more than actual intent, but it worked, didn't it?
"Oh," she said, spotting the piles of clothing, "you're leaving already?"
Cosette had adopted a slightly disappointed expression, but it faded into sympathy more or less right away.
"Of course. It can't be very easy for either of you under the circumstances, can it?" She sounded a bit uncertain, and very young; she was doing her best to be sympathetic but she only had her imagination to go by here. "And you have been here a while. I forget, since I haven't been here so long yet myself and it seems like no time at all since I first met everyone. But how are you going to fit all of that in there?"

He did however, have some flowers (but not too many, because she had to pack, come on) delivered with a note saying:
You've grown up to become a wonderful young woman. Hopefully one that keeps in touch. Good luck out there, Ms. Blythe.
