Completely Wasted Money

So Saturday afternoon Mom decided to watch a "What Not To Wear" marathon.  It's kind of ironic that she likes that show so much since sometimes I think she really needs to be on it ... but I digress.  I'm sitting there on the couch with my laptop, innocently chatting away (and trying to finish the Soda fic that had been plaguing me for four months) and look up at the screen momentarily to see the "student" in the 360 degree mirror holding a Vera Bradley tote bag.  My initial reaction was "oh, cute, that style looks pretty cute in the Raspberry Fizz pattern."  And then Clinton and Stacy step into the picture and declare it an old lady bag.  Gulp.

About a year ago I went on a massive spending spree.  I was feeling pretty good about myself for the first time in a long time and had some disposable income so I splurged.  A couple of my friends' daughters had developed a little obsession with Vera Bradley handbags and accessories and while I was buying them presents I ended up buying way too much for myself.  I now have two boxes full of Vera Bradley "stuff" sitting in my craft room.  A set of bags in the retired Classic Black pattern that was intended to be used for business travel (because it matched the cutesy set of luggage I had at the time), a set in the retired Petal Pink pattern (because of my new found obsession with all things pink) and a smaller set in Java Blue.  Yeah ... did I mention the word obsession?

So now I'm all paranoid that I look like a big dork carrying these matchy-matchy old lady bags to and from work.

And my mother's oh-so-helpful comment?  "I told you so." (She totally didn't; she just has a thing for wanting to be right all the time.)

Where does that leave me?  Shopping for a new purse on my lunch hour yesterday.  Sometimes I have a love-hate relationship with Macy's, lol.  Found a cute, grown-up-but-not-old-lady charcoal gray Liz Claiborne bag on sale (yay!) and I had a friends and family discount coupon so I guess it really goes without saying that I am now the proud owner of a not-old-lady purse.

Now if they would just put that Guess! tote bag on sale ...
