This time our players are #11 Irene Adler, #14 Athos, #9 Sherlock Holmes, and #1 is Bruce Wayne. Our Irene and Sherlock are the canon versions, more or less; Athos shall be plucked from the most recent BBC version, The Musketeers; and Bruce...could be an Elseworld incarnation of himself, perhaps with a nod to Gotham.
Backstory: Hmm... We're in Victorian times, London, but let us say things have taken a steampunk turn and there is a fourth character, offstage, in the form of H.G. Wells' Time Traveler (or possibly Wells himself, as that's a popular notion).
Whoever the Time Traveler is, they've plucked Athos from 17th century France and haven't worked out how to send him back. As a consequence he spends a lot of time drinking and brooding and pining for Aramis, Porthos, D'Artangan, and Milady. Because of the latter, when he chances to make the acquaintance of Irene he finds himself rather smitten with her. Irene is flattered but no more than that. He's not quite her type, after all.
A teenaged Bruce, meanwhile, wanting to learn detective skills from the world's very best, has come to London to meet Sherlock Holmes and apprentice with him.
In any case, it has been a cold and blustery winter. The Christmas holidays have concluded and a new year begun, with Sherlock's birthday coming up on the 6th of January. Irene gets it into her head to throw him a surprise party. How to surprise the man who deduces all at a glance, however? Athos suggests: Get him drunk. Irene replies: Not helpful. Where, she wonders, is Dr Watson when you need him? (The answer: off on his honeymoon with Mary.)
Bruce believes he knows that answer: They have to stage a mystery, one with plenty of puzzles for Sherlock to work out while they lead him ever deeper into the labyrinth--which will turn out to be the party (with John and Mary back just in time for the festivities).
While the party is going on, Inspector Lestrade arrives. He wants to get Sherlock's help on a murder. They do have a suspect, actually, but something about it doesn't sit well with Lestrade--"A bit too pat, if I do say so myself."
Who, Holmes inquires, is this suspect?
Lestrade says she gives her name as Anne de Breuil. Oh, and here's a photograph--

Athos snatches the photograph from him. "Anne..."
