*How cool is this? All the fandoms I nominated for Yuletide made the cut!

Well, I figured Agent Pendergast was a sure thing, but confirmation is good. The rest of them had struck me as longshots, though. Who knew anybody else out there has had a hankering for Lost Horizon fic?

And of course now I'm already thinking ahead and wondering which ones I could offer to write, as wanting to read in a fandom, and being able to write in it, don't necessarily go hand-in-hand.

*OTPs (One True Pairings). While commenting on an NCIS-related post by fanfromfla yesterday, I mentioned how the Gibbs/DiNozzo half of my brain was also a bit miffed about something regarding Gibbs/Ducky. And that got me thinking about OTPs, and what that really means, at least in my squirrely brain.

When Oz was pretty much the only fandom on my plate, there was utter clarity on this point. OTP = Beecher/Keller. Period. Not only was I not interested in any other combination of characters, I actively resented anyone who ever came between the guys, be it dead wives, ex-wives, Barlogs or McClains. It was (is) Chris + Toby 4ever, and everyone else just needs to get out of the way.

But then I ventured further afield and began dabbling in other fandoms, and discovered my OTPs weren't quite so cut-and-dry anymore. Which, actually, was a return to how it had been before B/K. In Blake's 7, for instance, while I had a preference for Blake/Avon, other combinations were a perfectly comfortable fit, be it Avon/Tarrant or Blake/Soolin. I couldn't stand Avon/Vila, but that was because I didn't like Vila, not out of devotion to any other pairing. Highlander the same; loved Duncan/Methos, yes, but also enjoyed Duncan/Tessa, Methos/Alexa, and so on, and most certainly did not gag and want to barf anytime one of them kissed a girl. (Of course I actually like a lot of female characters, so that probably makes a difference there. Male/female romance is one of my most favorite things in any media.)

About the only area where that exclusivity thing has come up before is the realm of soap opera, where it's all about rooting for a certain couple to overcome all their obstacles and be together -- only to have overcome a whole new set of obstacles, repeat indefinitely. So maybe that's it. My brain pegged Chris and Toby as being akin to a soap opera super couple, and that was that; they were Bo and Hope, and everyone else was Stefano DiMeara, out to tear them apart. *g*

But if my brain doesn't pick up any kind of soap opera element I can bring at least a degree of flexibility to the table? Or something like that.

*And speaking of soaps... *WAAAAAH* Zach's going to be killed off on AMC!!!! Just in time for the holidays. *WAAAAH* I probably should have figured that out, without needing to stumble across spoilers (yes, the person who routinely reads the last page of a book is currently kicking herself for having peeked at spoilers), because things have been so good between him and Kendall these last few weeks, with lots of talk about how happy he is, how good life is, and so on. In soap talk, that kind of thing always means the hammer of doom is about to fall.

So, there's going to be a plane crash, and his body won't be found, and in the soap world that always means the character could come back, but still ... *WAAAAH*

Actually what's even almost worse is that a new, "epic" love interest for Kendall is already set to appear. Needless to say, Zendall fans hate him already.

*How do I resist the temptation to dabble my toes in Hawaii Five-0? I mean, the Steven/Danny slash practically writes itself, plus this pesky plotbunny stopped by, something about how cool it would be if someone did a xover with Magnum. HELP!!!!

(And I won't even mention the AU Pendergast and NCIS plotbunnies that are also sitting there, smugly munching their carrots. You know, the one where 19th century New York cop Vincent D'Agosta, following up on murders committed by Enoch Leng, travels to New Orleans to meet with a certain Aloysius Pendergast. Or the one where the NCIS team are back in the 1940s, dealing with some kind of post-WWII intrigue. Yeah, those bunnies need to choke on their carrots, damn them.)
