Take my hand, let's stroll down memory lane

You know what I miss? Mail; or more specifically: correspondence. There was a time when waiting for the mail was one of the day's highlights, as there was hardly a week that passed without something arriving. A couple of letters, a card or two, perhaps a fannish newsletter, or most exciting of all: a long-awaited 'zine. In this age of instant gratification, this may sound off, but sometimes I think there's a lot to be said for anticipation. Yes, email is much more efficient, but somehow it lacks a certain charm and intimacy, not to mention that peculiar pleasure of looking forward to a reply. Or, for that matter, the leisure of composing a letter in the first place.

What's brought this to my mind? Only discovering that I have exactly four sheets + two envelopes left of my stationary. Remarkable, because there was a time when I could always be assured of having at least one box full of lovely paper and coordinated envelopes, ready at hand whenever they would be needed. Now it's those final sheets, three of the "One for My Baby" notecards maverick4oz had made for me -- and nothing more. (I was actually a bit excited this past Christmas when, for a few moments, it looked like a present from my sister was a big old box of stationary. Alas, it was only appointment books and such.)

Anyway, that's my nostalgic moment for the day. Proceeding to more potentially interesting matters now...

*Debate *g*: Which is worse -- traditional Mary Sue fic where a fantasy version of the author gets to interact, and frequently bed, her favorite character; or the same premise given a slashy twist, with an original male character, possessing most of the usual MS traits, does the same?

*Would anyone like to volunteer to be my official nudger? You know, poke me in the side, smack me upside the head every now and then and remind me of stuff I'm supposed to be doing? (Like making recs, answering comments.) I really think that might do the trick.

*Hmm, okay, there are signs of decreased feline activity, so perhaps it's time to see if a little bit of writing can be accomplished...
