It has been an entirely too long of a work day. Usually, Riley found a kind of peace from his job. Sitting amongst the quiet of the old, dusty relics gave him time to sort out the rest of his life. Was it absolutely imperative he attend that lunch his Mother was throwing with her snooty friends? Did he really have the time to give to a dog right now? Would one even have room in his little appartment? How was he supposed to figure out ring sizes without her finding out?
While he cleaned and restored and appraised, Riley felt like he he file all his issues in their proper place. This day, however, had brought him no chance for that.
Terrence Humblebug, a long-time customer and all around bumbling fool, had brought Riley a particularly interesting item. It was a box; small and square, no bigger than the palm of his hand, with beautiful, gold adornments around it's sides. Scarabs, Riley had noticed, clearly Ancient Egyptian. Almost anything from that era would fetch a gorgeous galleon on the open market. Upon further inspection, Riley discovered that if one opened the box and looked inside, the user could see exactly what one wanted. Riley had smiled down at Marlow, watching as graded papers. It was a beautiful find.
However, it was absolutely stolen. Probably not by Humblebug-- he could barely fix his bowtie. There was no way he could've illegal aquiored such a thing, but someone had. That meant the rest of Riley's afternoon was spent with his head in a fireplace speakin with the Egyptian consulate, and the rest of his night filling out mountains of paperwork. It was long after the sun had set that Riley got to leave his shop.
And the first thing he did was apparate over to The Hogs Head. He ambled over to a barstool, took a seat, and ordered a fresh pint of a dark lager. It was time to clear his head the old fashioned way.
