Okay, so I've been spending all evening working on setting up my computer. We tried to install linux, but the network card wasn't compatible (silly on-board hardware). So I'm still stuck with windows, but at least its all working again.
Tonight I've been reinstalling all my software again... I think I have pretty much everything... but tomorrow I get to organize all my files that I moved around to prepare to redo the OS.
