Tonight,
saviolo took me out to karaoke here in Toronto.
For those of you who don't know, I do karaoke pretty frequently back in California. I don't go every week, but depending on my schedule, I usually go two or three times a month, I'd say. And I have a lot of fun with it.
Doing karaoke in front of a new crowd was, at first, kind of scary. I started out doing Scissor Sisters "She's My Man," and got some bad stage fright and fucked up the first chorus, but recovered. Then, for my second song, I did "Popular" from Wicked, and got a great response from the crowd (even if the karaoke guy called me gay, which hey, was kind of the point).
But yeah, it was a great night of Canadian beer and a whole lot of Caesars. Based on drinks alone it was better than most bar nights in California (plus, I got to have poutine--with pulled pork!--so fuck yes!).
To close out the night, I did "Limelight" by Rush. When I asked for it, the karaoke guy looked at me, balked, and asked, "Are you Canadian?"
But people high-fived me after I was done. So I guess that means I did Canada some justice.
