So, I'm making textures for a new tattoo box, and I feel conflicted. The whole thing isn't going to be bright colors, it's going to be an assortment on a theme. I try my best to make tattoos good for most skintones, but some of the more interesting multicolored ones don't translate perfectly.
I'm probably going to use them anyway, but I guess I just want reassurance that it's worth it to put in some textures that aren't absolutely perfect on every skintone, as long as they are nice on like at least half of them? (Not everything can be blackwork.)
Example:
The backpiece just looks kinda goofy on the darker skin, while the navel piece is just a little unnatural looking. I know it has to do with letting the skintone be the "white" (which is done in tattoo work) and the fact that fading the colors enough to be believable on the darker tones eliminates the bright, fresh look that I enjoy seeing on the lighter tones.
It's just aggravating how hard it is to translate some designs into working on every skintone. And I know my example dark is really dark, but I have sims that dark. Granted, even on the best alphaed makeup, some of them still look stupid on really dark tones, same thing with some hair colors...so maybe I'm just overthinking this.
Speaking of overthinking, I've been thinking all of the people who've made sleeves for tattoo skins were unbelievably talented. Not that it doesn't take skill and effort, of course, but I didn't realize til today that I could maybe find a UV MAP for the nude mesh and save myself a lot of guess work by using UV map gridlines.
I AM A MORON.
On the plus side, next box has a half-sleeve, LOL.
