It's not like I actually have the time for it, but uh
Eh, Arashi?
WHY ARE YOU STILL SO APPALINGLY AWESOME?? I mean, honestly speaking, I'm not finding any of them to be aging particularly well (Sho-san, you can't pass for a teenager anymore, s2s), but hot damn their music catalogue holds up. I've been going through it chronogically and am currently repeating Daremo Shiranai like whoa because of reasons. (I might also be tentatively typing up Yuuri as a part time Shinigami, which confuses Victor exponentially, but why am I doing this to myself /looking at unfinished Star Trek/YOI fic sitting at 20k+ words).
But Ohno. Jfc. He is stunning, forever and always first in my heart <3
I also rewatched that live of Face Down that had strategically placed camera angles as to not show Nino very much unless he was singing, because, uh, he was limping all over the place and not really doing anything but the bare minimum of choreo. Poor guy, that entire performance is painful to watch T__T Other than that, Face Down still has my favorite choreo, and that song is still so special <3
(...I'd forgotten how genuinely terrible the mixing is in Endless Game, holy f that is so compressed, I can almost feel the edges fraying D: )
ANYWAY I watched the
news clips from Heroes & Future and Hanyu did Hope & Legacy and I can't. It's so, so beautiful and my favorite program of his, and anyone who says his love of frills and sequins is annoying can fight me. He looks divine in that costume. The blue and green makes him look ethereal. That show also saw the return of the YOLO 3A, seeing as he randomly did that after the layback Ina Bauer (right before the flying camel at the end) instead of the 3Lz he did for Worlds, like why did I ever expect any different from him? I'm just so, so happy that he's getting his jumps back.
I don't think I can properly express with words how much I love this program. It gave him such grief for an entire season and then Worlds arrived and it's still the single most beautfiful thing I've ever seen. After LGC, which was a mess, he returned and obliterated the world record with this.
I never thought he'd skate it again ;;__;;
(There's a
fancam on YT that shows almost all of Brian's and Tracy's responses after every jump element and the way they're jumping and screaming and hugging still makes me emotional, more than a year later... Kikuchi-san absolutely jumping for joy also makes my heart weep.)
Besides: for those of you who don't know, the music of Hope & Legacy is a mix between Asian Dream Song and A View of Silence, and Asian Dream Song was used as the theme for the Paralympics in 1998 in Nagano, which was honored by the show Heroes & Future, so it's only fitting and touching that Hanyu revived the program for this. Ugh, so many chills.
