The postcard that I stood out to me the most was the two-sided card. The front of the card says, "I was going to tell you that I love you...the night that you died." The back of the card shows a graveyard then goes on to say,” So I'm telling you now." As soon as I read this I was able to make an immediate connection. My cousin committed suicide in March of 2005. It was the biggest shock of my life. It was completely unexpected and it left my family with thousands and thousands of questions. Unfortunately, life today is taken for granted. As I witnessed first hand with my cousin, you can be alive one day and dead the next. I must have heard my aunt say countless times, "Why didn't I tell him I loved him the last day I saw him?" That is exactly what the author of this postcard is saying. If only we could look into a crystal ball and see the future. Life is so precise and death can come out of no where. It can hit you, like it hit my family, like a high-speed train.
After viewing this postcard, I felt a sense of relief. I now understand that many people out there went through the same experience my family did. The main idea here is that we can not blame ourselves. Loved ones, who have died, already know deep inside that they were loved by family and friends. The anonymous person who sent this postcard probably feels guilty or even ashamed for having to tell someone that they loved them from the graveyard. My advice for this sender would be to keep on living life. You can’t feel guilty because life is just so unexpected. From now on, however, take more time to spend with your loved ones and tell them how much you love them every once in a while. This is exactly what my aunt does these days. She will tell you how much she loves you until she is blue in the face. She doesn’t want to make the same mistake she made with her son. Don’t wait to tell someone that you love them today, because tomorrow it may be too late.
All in all, this post card was very touching. The picture that the sender used on the back gave me the chills. The picture is in black and white and is of a graveyard with tall crosses. I was able to connect with this anonymous person so easily, through personal experiences. It is such a hard thing to go through and I’m glad to see this person sharing her thoughts and emotions with the rest of the world!
From the time I began reading the postcards on the website until the time I had finished, 5,608 people had visited the website. That is an amazing number of people in such a short period of time. I now realize how popular Post Secret is and I will definitely be visiting this site again. This website is so helpful and has even helped saved people’s lives.
