I wasn't doing very well for a while, though, which led me to withdraw from a lot of social media. I avoided LJ especially since I got hit with a flood of spam. I've cleaned it out now

Let's see, what's up with me that you should know about.
1) Little Sister S is getting married next month. Very exciting. I am throwing her bridal shower this Saturday and our mother is flying in for a week tomorrow. M and I spend our chats dissecting all the mistakes she's making with her wedding planning, but we like the future BIL just fine, which is the most important part. 2) My practically perfect older child has actually been rude and snotty to a Perfectly Nice Adult, who told me about it. While I am appalled and dealt with the discipline issue, I am pleased to know that she has it in her. 3) I love my new dog, but she can be a pain in the ass. 4) I have been doing some daring physical things lately--whitewater rafting, wall climbing, Zip line, catapult swing--and I cannot even begin to tell you how much I've loved it. 5) I've read some terrific books over the past few months. 6) Had a brief scare about my vision, but seeing a retinal specialist who will be following me regularly and says I'm doing fine. Hopefully I will not fulfill the family history of having perfect vision until I'm suddenly blind. 7) Speaking of vision, M is now wearing glasses. It makes her cute and nerdy looking in a very adorable way.
I'm glad to know about Milo's future educational plans, but curious how she's all set so early?
The wife of a high school friend--someone M would also know and remember, I think--made it on to Jeopardy two years ago. He's still trying.
I am really looking forward to reading the book in person when that's an option.

Oh yes, while I have long known that a chunk of my ancestors were slaveowners, I was really, really appalled that my 5 times great-grandmother, Harriet Hamilton Austin, who spent the first 50 or so years of her life as a well-to-do Scots-Irish gentlewoman came to the states and was immediately presented with an 8 or 9 year-old girl slave by her son-in-law.
That's an actual LJ post, probably the only one I've made, so you can read that easily enough if you want to know more.
Oops! Total brain fart.kebbykateJune 5 2013, 06:21:43 UTC
I did a total misread on which year is in, I interpreted it as "my child has just completed junior year and is thus now a senior" the way one does right at the end of the school year.
