Ok I hate poetry, but I'm fascinated by Christina Rossetti because of a story conveyed in The Tattooed Potato and Other Clue, by Ellen Raskin. (which if you haven't read it, it is GREAT. She also wrote The Westing Game, which is also great.) I was excited when reading this month's Teen book club pick, Lips Touch Three Times, by Laini Taylor, because the first of the three stories is based on a Christina Rossetti poem. Decided to see what we have on Christina Rossetti for tonight's discussion and was thrilled to find we have a copy of the exact poem used, "The Goblin Market." As I reached for the book on the shelf, I noticed the illustrations and immediately began to grin--because it's illustrated by none other than Ellen Raskin. I'm starting to think a former librarian from the '70s was a fan, I've found so many books written or illustrated by Ellen Raskin on the shelves. I love it!
