Summary: Koyama wants to know the meaning of friendship so asks his best friend Shige...
Notes: Written in honor of Friendship Day!! :D
Today was a day-off for all of the NEWS members. It was Sunday. But not just any ordinary Sunday, it was Friendship Day. Friendship Day. An annual holiday celebrated on the first Sunday of August to honor the value of friends. And when you think of friends, you think of Koyashige. These two have been inseparable buddies for eight years! Oddly, Koyama was the only member in NEWS who knew about this day.
Koyama decided to "celebrate" by hanging out with Shige at his house. He knocked on the door and it opened to a smiling Shige.
"Hey!" Shige grinned.
"Sorry for bothering you on your day off." Koyama smiled wryly and felt a bit guilty that he won't give Shige a break when he deserves it.
Shige shook his head with the smile still glued on his face. "It's no problem, no need to apologize. I mean, we are friends, aren't we?"
Friends... Koyama thought in his head, took off his old sneakers when he got in, and entered Shige's living room.
An hour passed and the two were playing video games. More importantly, they were playing Mario Kart and Shige just beat Koyama for the tenth time.
"Alright!! I win again!" Shige exclaimed in victory and bounced in his sitting position.
Koyama laughed. "Yup, you did indeed."
Shige put down his controller. "Hey, you hungry?"
Koyama looked at the digital clock on top of the television. 12 o'clock. The perfect time for lunch. He nodded. "Kind of."
"Then I'll order some take out, okay with you?" Shige picked up the telephone.
"Sure. Just let me get my wallet--" Koyama dug through his pocket.
"No need! I'll pay this time!" Shige interrupted.
"But..."
"Koyama, you've always been paying for me and the others, I feel guilty!"
"Still..."
"Just let me pay this time." Shige dialed the number of a gyoza restaurant.
"Are you sure?" Koyama worried.
"Sure I'm sure! I mean, we are friends, aren't we?"
Friends... The same word rung in Koyama's head.
Another hour passed and their bellies were already filled with yummy food. Surprisingly, the two were silent while eating. Usually they'd be blabbering the whole time. But today, something was just different. Koyama decided to break the ice first when they finished eating.
"Hey, Shige." Koyama started off somewhat shy.
"Hm?" Shige replied.
"What's a 'friend'?"
"Eh?"
"Like I said, what's a 'friend'?" Koyama repeated.
"Friends are..." Shige thought for a moment and then cleared his throat. Oh dear, he was now going to be all smart and intellectual again. "Friendship is the state of cooperative or supportive behavior between two or more people. A friend is a person who's on good terms with another person. Friends are--"
"No, not in definition form!" Koyama interjected.
"Eh? Then what kind of answer do you want?" Shige asked.
"I wanna know what a friend means to you!" Koyama stated specifically.
"Well, there are many answers to that. Friends are someone to rely on, to respect, to love and care for, to--wait a minute, why the heck are you asking me this?"
"Because I wanna know what are friends to you!" Koyama replied.
"Why?" Shige repeated.
"Because today's Friendship Day!"
"'Friendship Day'? Are you sure you're not making this up, Koyama?" Shige was still confused.
"I'm totally sure, I swear!" Koyama went into Shige's room, took his laptop, searched "Friendship Day" on the internet and showed it to Shige. "See? It's a real holiday!" Koyama proved.
Shige nodded. "Well I'll be, there is such a thing as Friendship Day."
"Of course there is!" Koyama chuckled.
"So, did you possibly come over to celebrate our friendship on this day with me?" Shige curiously asked.
"Yup!" Koyama beamed and hugged his best friend. "I mean, we are friends, aren't we?"
Shige rolled his eyes at the fact Koyama was repeating his words from earlier today, but he hugged his best friend back. "You're an idiot, Koyama, you know that?"
Koyama nuzzled his face into the crook of Shige's neck. "An idiot who has the bestest friend in the whole wide world!"
Shige smiled. He felt all warm and fuzzy inside. "Thanks, best friend. Happy Friendship Day."
Happy Friendship Day everyone!! :D

I mean, friends are the best thing in the world, aren't they? ^^
I wonder if NEWS really knows that there is a such a thing as Friendship Day? Maybe not, but still, what if? x3
