I'm really curious. I would like to know what my friends think, especially the ones who have read the book and actually enjoyed it.
Twilight in Lit classWe're kinda worried that the book doesn't have enough meat for it to be good material for a lit class. I guess I get the teacher's idea that it would get the kids interested in reading, but still

The series was pretty good. I've read a lot of books and I've never been much fond of teen-oriented stuff (this being one of those LotR>HP moments) but reading Twilight brought about something odd and interesting. I don't know what it was that got me so caught up in it... I'd say it was just the Vampires (because you know I love Vampires) but I don't think it was just that, otherwise I would have read half a billion other books as well.
Bella is not a character that sets a good example for others to write. She's a complete sue. It isn't until the second book that others get proper description and depth, which makes the first book an annoying read once you reach the second or third book. The fourth, Breaking Dawn, was my favourite... a lot of people say that it ruined the series, though, so I don't know.
It's a good series, but the other worry is that they're making it into a movie, so it's going to be another Harry Potter - no one's going to read the books, anymore. They'll just watch the movies, and the books really won't make much difference. Kids these days just don't want to read. Doesn't their writing reflect that?
... just my two cents... and a dime.

Hm, I never thought of that for books turned into movies. I know how people aren't like me and my sister: We prefer to read the book first so that we can compare.
That might be an interesting thing to add to the curriculum, comparing the book and the movie.
I still haven't read the books myself and I do think I could like them. But I still feel it might not be right for an actual CLASS.
