Prompt 4

bookofnicodemus was kind enough to provide me with this gem. It's related to the previous one with Erestor. Let's call it the Erestor and Moonlight series :) I have to apologise for the slightly embarassing daytime drama quality of this thingy *cringes* My excuse is that it's Erestor who's describing the scene here. I'm just noting it down.

Anyhoo, here's the story:

This is how it would happen:

Erestor leaves the library at the moment of sunset, the last rays of Anor colouring everything with a golden hue. The hallways are so long and winding in this old house that by the time he’s at his chambers, it’s already dark. He sees the flicker of a light from under his door, and wonders if he left a candle burning in the morning, but he has not done anything that stupid in the first few thousand years of his life, and he surely is not about to start now. Not even in this land of makebelieve and wishful thinking.

He curls his fingers around the knob and for a brief moment he presses his ear to the door, trying to listen if he can hear any sounds from inside. But it’s silent, and he has no choice but to go in.

He opens the door and peers inside. The lone candle does nothing to reveal his visitor; the shadows of the flame are playing on the walls and creating places to hide. However, Erestor does not need to see. The moment he opened the door, the scent of his guest gave the game away. It’s the aroma of the woods, the sun and the wind, and the blue summer sky. It’s familiar, and so devastating in its familiarity that Erestor almost falls to his knees.

He steadies himself, leaning on a chest of drawers next to the doorway and moves further into the room. He finds Glorfindel sitting in an armchair, next to open balcony doors. In the dark, his eyes shine like pearls underwater, and Erestor has to catch his breath at the sight of it.

“I saw you in the window, Erestor.” Glorfindel says, without turning his head. “I want you to know that she and I, we are just friends, as we have always been. She knows my heart is heavy and wants to help.”

Glorfindel then gets up from the chair and walks over to Erestor. “You and I, I doubt we can ever be friends, but there are other ways to be.” He caresses the side of Erestor’s face, and lets his thumb brush over Erestor’s lower lip. “You know I will forgive you, but you will have to be sorry first. Not because you were caught, but for what you did. You hurt me, Erestor.” Glorfindel searches Erestor eyes, perhaps hoping to see the truth there. Whatever he is looking for, he doesn’t find it. He smiles then, the smile not reaching his eyes, and he lets his hand drop. “I better go. Goodnight.”

Before Glorfindel turns towards the door, Erestor reaches for him and grabs his shoulder. “Glorfindel, please, I love you!” They stand there for a moment, silence stretching on for what feels like an eternity, and Erestor thinks his heart is beating so loud they can hear it in Mirkwood.

He’s searching for the right words to say, to apologise when Glorfindel kisses him. It’s a perfect kiss. Glorfindel’s lips are soft, and warm, and full of forgiveness. Erestor presses his body flush againts Glorfindel, as he opens his lips, and his heart, to have more of what Glorfindel offers. They are all hands and mouths and hunger when they stumble on the bed. Erestor sighs in bliss as he falls.

This is how it would happen, how Erestor would be forgiven if he had his way, if dreams came true, if you could pick stars from the sky. This is how.
