Honestly, I'm not too happy with the direction the story has taken. I thought the clone stuff was completely stupid and pulled out of Kubo's arse. Also, Yama-jii showing all the abilities of his Bankai to a foe that was apparently super weak -enough to kill with just Shikai like he did other Stern Ritter- was total BS.
Lastly, I'm completely bummed with Juha Bach saying Yamamoto's deduction about the bankai stealing was wrong. It kind of made sense, why ruin it? I'm so fed up with overpowered villains and was so happy when Aizen was down for the count but JB seems so stupidly overpowered. I'm totally done with Bankai-stealing, it doesn't open new possibilities of battle, it just shortens them and screws shit up. And I'v also hated cowardly methods, so that's that.
I was happiest during the Espada/shinigami/Aizen goings-on (though the Winter War felt endless) so I'm fine with this. I'm not sure that Juha Bach (clone) *was* super-weak, or that even if he was there would have been a way for Yama-jii to tell.
As for overpowered enemies...well, it's shounen, and to a degree that will be expected. I don't think this is the "fair fight" portion of the arc - the whole purpose is to overthrow the shinigami, and according to what Kubo's indicated in interviews, it isn't until the shinigami are beyond hope that we'll see the zero squad. To that end, I've been relieved by the short battles - I assume they serve to demonstrate the depth of despair we're facing in brushstrokes, and that as we go on and people develop to deal with the threat we'll see longer and more effective fights.
Exactly, this is a predictable shonen pattern, and one that has grown old for me. First new foes appear, and they're overwhelmingly powerful, our heroes will never be able to beat them blah blah blah (remember the first Arrancar fights against Grimmjow's Fraccion? Hitsugaya was having trouble with that one). Then the big bad guys retreat and the good guys train or get reinforcements or whatever and in the end the bad guys weren't as invincible as they seemed -in fact, they are defeated with a flick of the sword-
I don't mind old shonen gimmicks, but I recently saw this same stunt pulled on Fairy Tail so I'm quite bored of it. Also, I have a natural dislike towards good guys being defeated stupidly with cheat methods -which they have been, all through this arc with the bankai stealing
If that's the case, it might be best to avoid shounen for a while just to take a break from the tropes - that's what I have to do when it gets to be too much. :)
