Disney Movies... and Moves

Sep 04, 2009 00:41

it's been a while, but I actually have stuff to say.

So Disney has been in the news alot recently because of the whole Marvel buyout thing, but as another artist stated earlier, when WB bought DC nothing really changed except for more movies and well, Smallville. I just hope that the license at Islands of Adventure doesn't ever expire. The Hulk and Spider-man rides hold it down. Besides, this is all part of Disney's Grand Master Plan to take over the world (you laugh now, but just wait...)
But seriously. If you guys remember, earlier this year Disney bought distribution rights to Dreamworks movies which used to belong to Paramount. Now they've bought most of the shares of marvel which for movie deals used to be under... Paramount. Basically Disney is draining Paramount/Viacom, who is also one of the cable power houses against Disney/Buena Vista. There's a lot going on behind the scenes there.

In other news, took a look at some Disney movies just to see. The new Tron movie,
"TRON Legacy" looks very promising from the trailer, except for the real heads on the CG bodies. Think of the clones from Star Wars: Episode 2. It's not a huge glaring problem, but to my animator's eye it kind of annoys me that they didn't just let the guys put on suits and run through the CG environment themselves like in the original TRON. They may tweak it before it's release in 2010, but if they don't, it won't ruin the movie.

Another Disney/TouchStone flick coming out is the
"Surrogates" starring everyone's main man, Bruce Willis. After seeing the trailer I thought to myself 'this seems like a really good and original story...there's no way Disney came up with this.'
So I did some research and found this
http://geektyrant.com/2009/05/5889/. I actually saw this author talking about this book at MegaCon 4 years ago. Yes this is a graphic novel turned movie. I haven't had a chance to read it, but it's supposed to really good and highly acclaimed. The graphic novel was written by Robert Venditti, who is actually A GRAD FROM THE UCF!
See, UCF grads do go on to do big things! Lets hope they do the movie justice... I guess we'll find out Sept 25th.

Not much else going on besides that.
Love and
Peace!
