Hey loves,
I wanted to pass these interview links along, to those of you who have been touched by Bettina's candidness and energy, those who have only heard of her in passing, and for you to pass along to those who've never heard her name or the stories of her activism and coalition with the Black Panther party and Angela Davis. This woman is a personal friend and mentor of mine, a dear human being, jewish grandma to the max, and still an active 60 year old queer UCSC Professor.
She recently released a novel, "Intimate Politics" which blends her personal life, growing up under a father prominent in the Communist movement, while also being sexually abused by him, with her experience at UC Berkeley and spearheading the Free Speech movement there in the '60's, to her work with the Soledad Brothers and the trial of Angela Davis in conjunction with those charges. Very interesting topics, and worth listening to. (I listened to them live, while I was gardening :)
So take some time to check them out (links below. Aired Aug 27/28); She really is a living legend, a warm lover of her family and students, a phenomenal inspiration at UCSC (the reason I perused Feminism, and Prison issues), and is nearing her sunset years.
Enjoy. Love,
Lauren
