"Never has one man provided so many of life's soundtracks. "
I've never cried over a celebrity death before. Maybe I'm crying because death seems to be throwing itself over too many that I love or because Joe Strummer was responsible for any ounce of rock and roll in me. He was who I looked up to for inpiration, he was a reminder that we don't all have to be jaded. It would be easy for me to say rock and roll died last night with him but that's not the case. I, along with countless others, only wish he could have made a deeper mark, or that I could have gotten the chance one day to look him in the eye and say thank you as cliche as that may be. I think it was passion, not blood, that ran through his veins. rest peacefully, step lightly, and stay free, joe.
As the smoke of our hopes rose high from the field
My eyes played tricks through the moon and the trees
I slept as I dreamed I saw the army rise
A voice began to call, stand till you fall
The tune was an old rebel one.
