CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Ranulf. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn
In-Game Name: Ranulf
Age: Appears to be in his mid 20s, but is really close to 80 due to the Laguz’s slower aging.
Gender: Male
Position & Ship (first and second choice for position please): Quartermaster, Strategist, Winding Way

Appearance: Ranulf is a lean, muscular young man in his physical prime. There is hardly any body fat on him, and he moves as if he has a few extra vertebrae hidden somewhere. Though overall Ranulf appears human, he also has a pair of prominent cat ears and a long cat tail, both of these the same bright sky blue as his hair and matching stripes on his cheeks and down the bridge of his nose. If this wasn’t enough to call attention, his mismatched eyes usually do: One blue-green, the other magenta.

Clothing-wise he tends to go for comfort and ease of movement. His outfits more often then not are formfitting and lacking sleeves, though a tan headband with oddly useless ear-guards is a common accessory.

In his beast form Ranulf is a huge blue wildcat with white markings. This form is as long as a grown man, and weighs even more.

Personality: Ranulf is very relaxed young man, taking most things in stride as they go on around him. His carefree and accepting attitude is seen as odd to many of his tribe mates, but in turn makes his much more accepting of humans and other types of demi-humans. He also has a coy sense of humor, which he likes to use to tease others with often.

But even though he is calmer then most cats, he still has a pool of aggression at his core, and will fight tooth and claw if needed. He has a unwavering sense of loyalty, justice and honor, as well as a blunt honesty. This has served him well in the past both as a general and a diplomat. He is also a practical, sensible man. He knows ideals are great, but so is a bit of realism to back them up.

Sadly, though he is more accepting then most laguz, he still is rather untrusting of humans. He just isn’t as outright about it. He can be rather oversensitive of possible insults towards demi-humans, though he is quick to forgive as well. He can also be rather blunt, sometimes in an almost cruel way. Because of this he can throw some people off, and make bad first impressions.

Abilities/Weapons:Ranulf’s biggest ability is his power to change forms. When needed he can transform into a huge blue wildcat, with powerful jaws and claws. In this form he is no stronger then a large wildcat, and can carry a small person, but is generally stronger then the average human. With the power in his jaws and claws he could tear out a man’s throat or break a limb. But anyone with practice and skills in battling beasts could take him out, as he does not heal or take damage any better then normal.

In both forms he has a powerful sense of smell, and with it can track, as well as notice changes in scent that goes along with emotional shifts. His night vision is also very strong.

As a diplomat he knows a smattering of languages and has an array of contacts around Reial.

How well can your character hack?: As an information gatherer Ranulf has made a point of learning the Journal system. But he’s had a late start since his tribe doesn’t focus much on technology. Because of this he can only hack up to medium difficulty.

Weaknesses: Ranulf’s beast form, though strong, can only be held for short periods of time. Because of this he can be kicked out of it right in the middle of battle. In his humanoid form he has NO fighting skill, as the Laguz shun the idea of depending on weaponry. So while he can still take some damage, he is mostly useless in a battle until he can shift again. His shifts, though powerful, are shockingly short. Outside of battle he can hold the cat form for at most for an half an hour. But once the adrenaline of battle kicks in the form can only really be held for minutes. At most 10, but often shorter. Luckily he recovers quickly, usually with 20 minutes. In his cat form he also cannot talk any human language, and must rely on roars to communicate. He also tends to lose some of his mental capabilities, and becomes easier to taunt to whip into a rage as he is more in touch with his animal self in this form. His self-control is weaker, and he is more likely to seriously hurt someone, even if it is only a spar, or someone who is needed alive.

Like all Laguz, Ranulf has a powerful weakness to fire. Not only do burns hurt him more then they do most, but he also has an instinctual fear of it. Something small will just make him uncomfortable, but large fires out of control are app to make him flee or freeze in catatonic terror. This weakness is even stronger in his cat form, as instincts are even stronger.

He is also a little biased, though he tends to keep this to himself. It’s harder for him to trust a human then another demi-human, though he can get over this on a person by person basis.

The young Laguz also has a bad habit of fighting those stronger then him. He’s not foolish enough to charge into battle, but he won’t back down if faced with something more powerful.

History: Ranulf was born in the wilderness of the Badlands, a member of the Beast Tribe- A group of demi-humans called Laguz who can transform into wildcats and tigers. At one time the tribe spread over large parts of the Badlands along with the other breeds of laguz, but by the time Ranulf was born their numbers had dwindled. The tribe as a whole distrusted humans, who they say at one time enslaved their people. How much of this is true is unknown, but the laguz did suffer from persecution, since their beast forms resembled many of the monsters that roamed the wilderness.

But unlike many of his tribe-mates, Ranulf had a curiosity that no amount of fear could crush. As he grew he took to wandering farther and farther away from home, learning more and more about the outside world, humans, and the political strife of Reial. He made both friends and enemies among the “beorc” (the Laguz’s term for humans), proving to himself that they were just as much individuals as laguz, and that he couldn’t blindly follow his tribe beliefs. Though human customs still confused him more often then not, he wanted to learn more. Soon his knowledge of humans and survival skills caught the eye of the Beast Tribe king, Caineghis, who set him up as a general in his milita.

Time passed, and Ranulf did well as a warrior. His calm demeanor and practicality was a good foil to his soldiers fiery tempers, though more often then not Caineghis would send him on solo missions, such as spying and information gathering. Among his trainees were the serious Kyza and the slightly flighty Lyre, who in turn became his trusted underlings… even though they often bickered for his attentions.

Until one day, concerned about the calls for Badland independence and demi-human rights, Caineghis called for Ranulf to leave their home and investigate. The young cat was to travel, test the social and political air of Reial, and report back what he found. It was time for the Beast Tribe to decide what place they would have in any possible upcoming war…

SAMPLES-

Third Person (roleplay): Ranulf liked life on an airship. There was a certain charm to so many different people in such a confined space, working together. Especially beorcs who more often then not were at each other’s thoat’s. Everyday had some kind of new drama unfolding.

Like just yesterday he had watched from afar as two crewmen dealt with their oh-so-obvious love affair in the brig. The teens had done anything…TOO interesting. He would have smelt it if they had, but their denial was almost cute. He planned to have a word or two with the boys, see if he could nudge things along in the right direction. Beorc mating was just so…FUNNY. They made such a ruckus over it, he never got bored.

But if there was one thing he hated about life on an airship, it was the FLYING. Every time the ship took off the laguz was forced to dash to the ships edge and expel his guts. And to be honest the pretty turning leaves of Boston did not look so fetching covered in vomit.

“Eh… I wonder if…er…this is karma… Okay, no more spying I promise!” But any gods that might have been listening did nothing, and the cat groaned, curling into a ball against the railing. “Uh…I hate flying. These paws were meant for the ground only!”

At least it wasn’t chocolate this time.
First Person (journal): Ah, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen one of these… just a second-

Got it, this records voice, right? Interesting~ They’ve moved some of the buttons around. Beorcs are always changing things around, it get’s rather confusing. But I guess I’ll just have to relearn it. No point complaining, right?

I wonder how long before these things can take pictures or other things… now THAT would be interesting…
