Sad family news
My grandmother yesterday morning broke her hip. I got a text from my dad, without any information regarding to her condition or really if anyone was up there with her yet. Got word that my Aunt Dena would be heading down there from NYC, and would spending her time down there for a bit (and that's not easy, being a well-liked gyno in the city, with appointments booked up to 6 months in advance. My dad is stuck in San Diego until he can make it back out there and will by driving up to Philly to see her. I get the impression that she's in good hands, as St. Mary's has a pretty extensive Orthopedic team, plus, it's not the doctor's in the family will let anyone give her subprime care.
Today thus far, she's having more x-rays, but apparently the fracture isn't as bad as it could have been, and instead of her hip joint, is more her pelvic bone. She will be having surgery, however, it won't be as intensive as if it were her hip joint, and would probably involve just inserting a screw to help healing. She's going in this afternoon for surgery, and apparently it's routine, I'm just worried about the risks of anesthetic and older bodies and the possibility of further infection. I will call her soon with David, and we'll see how's she's doing.
