When I was in seventh grade, I was a huge fan of Space Cases, as were all of my friends. I seem to recall naming a purple smiley face eraser "Suzee" in honor of the character. Now I'm twenty-three and in the process of watching every single episode in order, as made possible by YouTube and certain other folks here. (I'm about halfway through Season Two.) I'm honestly pretty surprised that the series holds up to the test of time as well as it does. Most things I liked as a kid, if I watch them now, I'm horrified and all of my great memories are ruined. Thank you, Space Cases, for actually *being* awesome and not a delusion of a young mind.
A few weeks ago, I remembered that when I was a fan of this show the first time, I drew some fanart that was never thrown away. And being a fan now, I had to draw some more fanart.
This is my first drawing of Suzee. I was pretty bitter about Catalina leaving, so I didn't actually like Suzee, but I pretended that I did. And started watching General Hospital in 1999 because she was there.
Suzee again. Pitching into someone's mind this time. You'll notice, I didn't actually reference the stripes on her hair.
Catalina today! Note how somethings never change: I didn't bother referencing her outfit. I thought I knew it well enough. And I was WRONG!
I will admit: I am a HUGE fan of Radu/Elmira. At this point, Elmira is my favorite character. I sincerely doubt I would like her as much as I do if she was a regular character, but as a mysterious and rare presence, I adore her. I also think they have the most interesting relationship of all the characters because they have the prejudice to contend with, like Radu and Harlan, but also fate. (I tend to interpret then as being destined to be together in that sense, but I know its not concrete.) So when Radu struggles with if he even wants to be with Elmira, he has not only the internal struggle of what they are, but also living with the fact that "We will all do what we are destined to do."
Anywho, this picture has been through a lot. They were drawn seperately but then I slapped them together because they had the same stoic expression and were looking in the same direction. There was much playing with the background, too. I never draw objects, only people, but don't like having just whiteness behind the figures when I color.
In addition to drawing, my friends and I are all pretty into Role Playing, but its been a while since we've had a successful RP.
Being the obsessed Caser that I am, I've infected one of my friends, and we're working on creating an RP that would operate in the Space Cases universe. Players create their own original characters--who may or may not be related to characters from the show, it's your call--who attend the Starcademy and have crazy adventures. We're hoping to find some players, so if that sort of thing might interest you, please check it out.
