Of Sues and Fanfic...
Lately I've been reading up on "Mary-Sues" in fanfiction and how despised they are. I can relate, don't get me wrong, but now that I've watched about half of the first season, I've had an interesting thought. It's pretty funny if I think about it, but Elmira's about as Sue-ish as it gets.
She has special powers no one else has, everyone comes to love her, she leaves to an unknown fate, she has an angsty past, she's wise and understanding, she makes a regular cast member fall for her even though they're enemy species, and she's pretty much flawless as a person. The only part of the litmus that doesn't apply to her is that she's not "stunningly beautiful" although they certainly do their best around the lizard makeup.
Not that it doesn't work, but I do find her unbearably perfect. Thoughts?
