It’s Masaki first time to go to Osaka. He was so excited since Kazama - his best buddy at school - told him he could come along to visit his hometown, Osaka, for this year summer holiday. At first, his father - Sakurai Sho - was reluctant to let him go that far without him. But Masaki insisted. Osaka is Kazama's hometown and after all he is already 16 years old and should be able to take care of his own self. With his puppy eyes and a little pout on his lips - which he did for almost a week - he finally managed to get permission from Sho. But of course that’s after making promises he would inform him everything he does there and call him immediately if something happens.
His father ushered him and Kazama to the station, early in the morning before he went to work. When it’s time for them to board the train, Sho hugged him tightly, reminded him to be careful and call him when he arrived, as if he would leave him forever. Masaki nodded, understanding his father’s worries. He never went to another town without his father before. Well, his father never let him, and he knows why. Since his daddy and his twin brother left their home when he was 5 and never came back, his father was so broken. His father would feel so insecure if he was alone by himself at home. Letting Masaki went alone would make him think that he would leave him forever. But this time, no matter how hard it might be to let his father be alone for a week, he still had to go. He has a big mission, a mission he hopes will make their life would be as bright as the old days when his family was unbroken. He can’t tell his father though, ‘cause he would be dragged back home right away if he knew. After promising in his heart, he released his father’s hug, said goodbye and stepped into the train.
Through the way to Osaka, he stared outside the window while Kazama was in deep slumber. His mind went back to the time when he saw his twin brother at the school music festival a month ago. He was so tired and hungry, had no time to have lunch and went right way after school. After complaining nonstop and located the stage where Kazama’s favorite school band would perform, Kazama finally let him rest and went to buy some onigiri for them. He sat on one chair at the second row from the front of the stage. The stage was not crowded yet, so they still manage to find a quite good spot. The performance actually was starting 45 minutes later so they had enough time to fill their stomach first.
The performance was catchy. For school student level, their performance was really great. They enjoyed it fully. It was when vocalist of the third band started singing, he froze. He couldn't believe what he heard and what he saw. Eleven years had passed, not even once since that time did this voice greets him nor this face appears in front of him. Still, he was sure, there’s no possibility that he was wrong. His eyes were glued to that person. The sound of music didn’t get into his ear. The singer voice clearly woke up his deepest memories. Kazunari, that was Kazunari, one of his brothers. Standing on the stage in front of him, playing guitar with his cubby hands, mesmerising people with his voice. His voice was so beautiful, just like their Daddy’s.
The tears flowed out of his eyes because of all the memories. Without him realizing, the band had already finished their performance. They thanked the audiences and walked to backstage. Kazama shook Masaki’s body hard, too excited, made him snapped from his thought. Masaki ran out from the sea of people, ignored his friend calling for him. He had to see his brother before he left. This was his only chance. He ran with all of his might to the backstage, searching for his brother, but he couldn't found Kazu. He’s nowhere to be seen. Didn't want to give up, he asked some people. Almost of them said they didn't know, until the last person he asked told him Kazu had just left with his friends.
Too tired and feeling so disappointed, he sat on the ground near the stage, leaning his back on a tree. He stayed there until Kazama found him. Kazama asked him a lot of things which he barely heard or answered. Seeing his friend like that, Kazama decided they had to go home, even though he still wanted to stay there.
On their way home, Masaki suddenly spoke out.
“He was there, in front of my eyes. Yet I lost my chance to talk to him.”
“Huh?” Kazama stared at his friend confusedly. “Who are you talking about?”
“Kazu, Kazunari my brother.”
Masaki answered his question but continued his steps without looking back or facing him.
“You have a brother?”
They already arrived in front of Masaki’s house. Masaki stopped for awhile, then turned around.
“Thank you for today. Because of you I could see him today. Be careful on your way home. Bye.”
He gave Kazama a weak smile before entering his house, leaving a confused Kazama outside. When he walked through the living room, his father was sitting on the couch watching TV.
“Tadaima.”
He said with a weak voice.
Noticing his presence, his father looked toward him.
“Okaeri. How’s your day Masaki? Did you have fun?”
He nodded.
“Yes. It’s fun.”
His father knitted his eyebrows. He could feel something was off. He stood up, approached him and ruffled his hair softly.
“Dear. Is there something wrong? You don’t look well.”
“I’m okay Pa. I’m just tired. I think I should sleep now, so I won’t be late for school tomorrow. Good night Pa.”
He wanted so bad to tell his father about Kazu. But knowing his father, he chose to keep his mouth shut. That night he’s not able to sleep. Kazu’s face and voice were not leaving his brain. That made his urge to find him became bigger. After vowing in his heart that he would find his Daddy and his twin brother, his eyes finally able to shut, leading him into the happiest dream he ever had, laughing together with his father and brothers in this house.

It’s lunch time when they arrived at Kazama’s grandparents home. Kazama’s grandparents greeted them with alot of food. After putting all their belongings in Kazama’s room, they went right away to the kitchen. Without being told more than once they ate everything that were served to them. All the food cooked by Kazama’s grandma were so tasty. Masaki praised her rightly, making her chuckled and teased him that he just too hungry.
“No, it’s really delicious.” He said solemnly. “Well, I don’t eat home cooking often though. My Papa is not a good friend with anything related to kitchen and cooking even though he really loves food.” While chewing the food in his full mouth he continued. “So we often order take out food, eating outside, or sometimes I’m the one who cook for us. My cuisine are mostly better than Papa’s” Masaki said with a grin.
“He’s right!” Kazama added suddenly. “I had tasted Sakurai-san's cuisine, when I had sleepover at their home. The taste was terrible. I won’t eat any food he makes anymore.” His face was pale by the thought of the taste of the food.
“Hey you’re too mean.” Masaki punched Kazama’s shoulder lightly and gave him a pout. “He did his best, you know. You shouldn't have said that.”
“I said the truth.” Kazama defended his self. “But, well, sorry. I know your father did his best.” Looking at Masaki apologetically.
“It’s okay. Just don’t say that in front of him. That will make him feel awful. I don’t want him to be sad.” Said Masaki while smiling to his friend. Kazama nodded his head as a promise.
Kazama’s grandparents are so amused by these two friends’ behaviour, shaking their heads and giggling over their conversation.
“Doesn’t your Mama cook? Or she does not love cooking like your Papa?” She asked teasingly.
Kasama’s grandma’s sudden question made both of them stopped their eating. Masaki’s face become gloomy for a second. Kazama looked at his friend worriedly.
“I don’t have a mama.” He answered and played with his food. “I have a Daddy, though. But he left home with my twin brother when I was 5.”
“I’m sorry dear.” Kazama’s grandma put her hand on top of Masaki’s and squeezed it softly, feeling so bad by her question.
“It’s okay.” He looked up and gave a slight smile. “I will find them soon. That’s why I’m here now. I got an information which said that they live in Osaka. So I hope both of you wouldn't mind me staying here while I try to find them.”
“Of course not, dear. You can stay here as long as you want. Make it like your own home. I believe you'll find them soon.” She squeezed his hand and pat his head.
“Yes, she is right. And if you need our help, don't hesitate to ask. We’ll help you if we can.” Kazama grandpa add it reassuringly.
He is so touched by their kindness. Stood up from his seat, he went to hug Kazama’s grandma and said thank you. He became more hopeful. He will find them for sure.
