things i learned from transformers, the movie

On Friday I saw the new Transformers movie. Here's what I learned:
  • Hollywood has not learned anything about operating systems or computer security in over ten years. the movie Independance Day (or ID4 for you l4m3rs out there) was released in 1996. Sadly, the same sort of foreign virus can still invade and cripple an alien computer system in a matter of seconds (except now the scriptwriters seem to have heard about polymorphic viruses).
  • A saws-all can defeat an evil lesser Decepticon minion.
  • A juvy car-stealing girl can really handle a tow truck (with a multi-ton Autobot in tow). srysly.
  • The hero can outrun and outmaneuver the Decepticons in a chaotic city, but the same Decepticons have no problem turning into cars that drive really fast and planes that break the speed of sound; they conveniently lose this ability when chasing Sam and the cube, upon which their entire existence is predicated. I guess it's like kryptonite or something.
  • In the end, Louis Stevens from Even Stevens (totally typecast forever, in my mind) gets not only the girl, but also his dream car, and a super cool robot buddy.
It's like the pubescent ideals of the 80s got together with all of your old Transformers toys and spawned a movie. Hell, I didn't say it had to make any sense, it's just a movie, for chrissakes!
