now onto configuration of the beast!

i'm going to go with the 15". thank you, livejournal friends, for your input. it's getting 512mb ram (i'm not going to suffer the anal reamage of buying ram from apple), upgraded later from a third party. i'm going with the superdrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW) because of its vast data archiving capability.

now, do you think applecare is a waste of $239 or think it's worth it for two extra years of warrantee?

also i will never use the dual dvi link (i don't see a 30" cinema display in my future anytime soon), but i'm weighing whether 128mb of vram is worth it or if i should just stick with 64. on one hand everything is going quartz extreme/core graphics (offloading everything under the sun onto the video card's vram for better performace (for great justice!))... on the other, maybe the performance gain isn't that great.

80gb or 100gb drive? ($90 difference. ouch.) background: i have a 200gb disk that i'm going to stick in a firewire enclosure to act as portable storage/backup. on first blush that, combined with dvd archiving, seems to say that all i'd need would be 80gb onboard. then i look at software bloat and what i'm planning on for sw (mac os, dev tools, unix ports, audio apps (logic/reason/reaktor, sample libraries), photoshop, illustrator) and think hmm, perhaps an extra 20gb would be handy.

Poll 15" powerbook (of doom) configurator

please and thank you!
