After what I thought was a good trip (and don’t get me wrong, I had a fantastic time), I’m feeling pretty shitty about everything as usual AND I hate being back in New Hampshire. So I’m pretty depressed and don’t know what to do with myself, other than maybe sleep a lot so I don’t have to deal with my stupid life.
In order to spare you the long-winded recap of my vacation, I thought I would just highlight some of the best moments. We spent six days in Ireland - did the usual Dublin sights like Jameson and the Kilmainhaim Gaol, and then went to Kilkenny and Malahide, both home to beautiful castles restored to their Victorian splendor. We had typical Irish weather, however we took a tour through the Wicklow Mountains just south of Dublin on Wednesday when the whole of Ireland was 80 degrees and sunny. I actually got sunburn, which extremely rare in Ireland.
The first U2 Croke Park show was Friday and 80,000 people attended. The show was amazing, but lacked “An Cat Dubh” (played at the third show, surprise, surprise). The same 80,000 people flooded the streets after the show and literally took over Lower Gardiner Street, the same street as our hotel. There were people everywhere.
The journey home was VERY LONG on Sunday. I managed to snag a cold because the plane was 0 degrees and the cabin pressure was off. Oh, and they had no blankets to give people. I hate Aer Lingus and will never fly with them again. Luckily I brought home enough cheese and onion crisps to get me through my post-vacation depression. I think I’ve had post-vacation depression since France 1999. On a positive note, I can report that I was kissed on the cheek by an Austrian boy who thought I was beautiful (he must have been REALLY drunk) at the pub down the street.
[Live from Dublin, Ireland - well, not really but to be honest, I was having such a great time over there that I couldn’t even make time to go online and update my journal. Seriously. I will have photos soon!]
