Due to a broken tailbone, I really didn't get a chance to start this year in books blog until, well, tonight. My goal is to try and read 50 books this year and chronicle each one I read on here. I can make no claim of greatness in reviewing books, but I have lots of friends who love to read and I want to share my thoughts on the ones I read in case anyone ever needs some motivation on what to pick up next.
So far this year I have read one book and am in the middle of several others and waiting for the last book in a trilogy. Darn library has it out until 1-28-11 and they lost their funding for the library loan system they had going so I can't even get it from another library. Anyway, here is what I've read this year:
1. City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare, the book is the 2nd in her Mortal Instruments trilogy and my mom recommended it to me. The first book, City of Bones, was read at the end of last year. Its geared more towards the younger teenager crowd and borrows heavily in the plot department from Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and the Twilight Saga. I almost didn't read this series because it started so weakly. The first chapter of the first book had at least 3 eye roll moments and the dialog and writing were choppy and absurd. But, once the author hit her stride, I was hooked. City of Ashes was even better than the first and I'm excited to finish up the series with City of Glass when it gets in at the library.
I'm in the middle of the following books:
1. Wuthering Heights by Bronte (can you believe I've never read this!?) &
2. Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon
Those two should keep me very busy for a while. I'll update sporadically and highly recommend, if you are an avid reader like me, to join Shelfari and friend me. I keep track of everything I read or ever have read. You can find me here:
