Suddenly, i'm up at 4am in the morning.
I just had a weird dream, but maybe we'll skip that for now.
After a bit of staring out into the night/twilight, i tried to sleep again but suddenly the Gilmore Girls popped into mind.
I just watched the new 4-episode special season on Netflix. Maybe they did it just to tie loose ends and such from the original series. I actually finished it all in one sitting. But i'm guessing most of Gilmore Girls fans would actually do the same. The ending was.. hermm.. a bit unexpected.
Apparently, it ended with Rory saying "Mom, I am pregnant".
I remembered that Amy Sherman-Palladino wanted to end the original series with these 4 words. She described the (at the time, secret) words as coming back full circle. I kept thinking about this "coming back full circle" concept that was represented by these 4 words. At first i thought, because Rory became pregnant, it became full circle. But that is kinda shallow.. That cannot be it. Lorelai became pregnant as a teenager and Rory in her 30s. This cannot be a reflection of her mother and made it full circle, right? So this cannot be it. There must be another reason she called it "coming back full circle".
Then while trying to sleep now, I realized WHY Amy Sherman-Palladino said that.
Rory's life, as it were at the end of the series, has been set as Lorelai's.. (especially the men!)
Ok before that, let's step back for a bit. In the last few seasons of the original series, Rory was involved with Logan, the stuck up, upper class rich guy who for the most part, thinks of only of himself. And so this is where we pick up in the new series. It was revealed that Rory still has an on-off relationship with Logan who resides in London. We found out later that Logan is already engaged to an heiress while involved with Rory. She broke it off with him eventually because of that.
Later on, Jess came by to support her when Rory was down and doubting herself and her abilities.
But anyway, how does this relate back to "coming back full circle" thing?
Well, all of Rory's boyfriends and major circumstances reflects what Lorelai has gone through.
1) Lorelai was pining for Christopher (Rory's dad), who is from a rich upper crust family. He was a jerk before i think, based on the conversations going ons during the original series. He then mellowed down by the time we met him at the start of Gilmore Girls series. Lorelai was close to Christopher eventhough they're not together anymore (at least before the wedding and subsequent divorce anyway)..
- This is like Rory and Logan.
I wouldn't be surprised if the baby is Logan's in the first place. She is close to Logan emotionally, but he is totally wrong for her.
2) Lorelai has Luke, who cares for her but does not (or doesn't know how to?) persue her romantically, at the start of the original series. He's rough, but has a big heart. And everyone knows they're made for each other. Basically he's her soulmate.
- This is like Rory and Jess.
Jess comes into her life, tough and a little rough around the edges. But he also has a good heart and is always around when she needs him. He watches quietly from the sidelines, pining for her like Luke does for years with Lorelai. He also knows what she needs.
3) Lorelai has a major issues with her mother.
- To some degree Rory had this during the original series. But it wasn't as bad with them compared to Lorelai and Emily.
So, in conclusion, if Rory's life is somewhat a reflection of Lorelai's life, then somewhere in the future, she will end up with Jess! (Yes! Team Jess all the way..!) Ok that's it. This is the end of my conclusion and epiphany at 4am.
