FAVOURITE DRIVER(S): Michael Waltrip! I am also a fan of David Reutimann, Kenny Wallace, Larry Foyt, Shane Hmiel, Mike McLaughlin, and Andy Santerre.
LEAST FAVOURITE DRIVER(S): Clint Bowyer. There are others I'm not overly fond of like Mark Martin and Jeff Burton, but Bowyer takes the cake.
FAVOURITE TRACK: I love going to Pocono. I'm big on Daytona and Dega because those are Mikey tracks.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A NASCAR FAN? I've been a casual fan since 1999. I got hooked in 2002 when I saw this interview with Mikey (it starts at the 2:15 mark):
WHY NASCAR? You can get close to the drivers, and you can't do that with any other sport quite like this. Initially, I loved watching pit stops, but once I saw that interview with Mikey, I wanted to see him do well. I've only become a bigger fan of his the more times I've met him.
FAVOURITE NASCAR MEMORY: I'm taking this straight out of the last NASCAR friending meme, because I have lots of favourite memories.
- The most recent was Loudon this past season. I got to see Mikey both days. I didn't freeze up like I usually do, and he gave me a hug both times!
- My friend Ruth, her friend, my sister, and I presented Mikey with a trophy at Pocono after he won a sexiest driver competition.
- When I was at NASCAR Speed Park in NC with my college roommate in 2003 and we watched the Busch Series race while sitting in the chairs that went with driving video games. Mikey won - it was the Cabella's race at Michigan - and I was going nuts. I got a #15 license plate frame that day too.
- When I was at Pocono when Mikey won his first pole in 14 years. I cried.
- Any of Mikey's wins, like when he held off everyone to win at Dega and popped his head out of the roofhatch. He is still the only driver who has celebrated like that and probably will be the only one ever. I also loved watching on TV when he won the rain shortened 2003 Daytona 500, and he ran through the grass with his arms over his head.
- Other moments like when his car broke down and he pushed it across the line at the end, or when he finished 7th after having a lot of bad luck, so while Matt Kenseth was doing his victory donuts, Mikey was doing donuts in the grass too.
- For a non-Mikey memory: When I was in Vegas for the truck race, the computers went down and people lost information from practice, but then Mike Skinner's wife Angie found the notes I'd been taking on the fan club message board (I'd been transcribing radio chatter throughout practice and had been emailing it to my mother, who posted it to the site). They were able to use that information, and I was in the pit box for the race. And Mike won, and my sister and I went to Victory Lane too.
OTHER FANDOMS: Right now, I can't really say that I'm knee-deep in any fandom. Check out the interests on my LJ profile for more information there.
JOURNAL STATUS: Friends only
TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOU: I'm a bit of a workaholic.
ANYTHING ELSE?: This video is the best little tribute to Mikey's talent and perseverance. And it's only a minute and a half.
